I seriously do not get sanctioning bodies. Fair enough Pickering has a mandatory but surely Wilders could have been a voluntary defence or was it a similar situation as to Calzaghe and Magee.

Wilders was eligible for a EBU fight. There can be several reasons that it wasnt an EBU fight.
Purse size (EBU has a minimum purse for title fights)
Promoter simply would pay sanction fee
Mallon camp wouldnt allow a title fight. If Wilders would have won they would have to start all over with pursebids ect.

Wilders is a fat bastard. It was originally down to be a 10-rounder until porky Noel showed up and it was changed to 8.

He looked comfortably over but curiously no weights were announced.
