Winky dominates Tito

Great result for Winky, totally dominated Trinidad throughout.
Controlled aggression, just couldn't miss with his right jab.
If he would have committed himself more in the latter rounds a stoppage may even have beeen on the cards. Tito just didn't have an answer to break through Winky's excellent defence and the advice Tito was getting from his father, in the corner, was diabolical - 'everythings alright', - when he was clealry behind, in fact hadn't won a round! 'You gotta hit him hard' - well tell him something he doesn't know why don't cha!
In contrast Dan Birmingham, in Winky's corner, gave excellent tactical advice at the end of EVERY round.
IMO Winky isn't a superstar because his style isn't exciting to watch but for afficionados he is a delight to watch.

Winky vs Hopkins is now my biggest hope of 2005.
Quite possibly 2 of the top 4 P4P against each other and there is little weight difference.
Still also think Wright vs DLH would be interesting, but I cannot see DLH fighting at Middleweight again, and cannot see Winky moving back down. Although, if there was a bet to be had, I would bet that we have seen DLH in the ring for the last time as a fighter.
Well from comeback of the year 2004 to nowhere to go in 2005.

Winky v Hopkins would be a great fight. Hopkins is a master tactician, it would be interesting to see what tactics he adopts against Winky.

Time for the modern great Tito to retire methinks. Here is a counterpuncher who never threw a single counterpunch the whole fight. Just leaned forward like a clubfighter and fired meaningless, drab shots into Winky's tight defense, while being jolted by jabs on the way in and the way out. After he took the punches there was no reflex - it was like his body didn't even register them until a good full second afterward. He looked shot. He's done everything, he should get the fornicate out.
The commentary was pure cheese. Adam Smith's laboured hyperbole is as irritating as Winky's 'safe' style. Please leave him to do the travelling interviews and features.
I was astonished by Jim Watt saying Wright did a more impressive job of outclassing Tito than Hopkins. In fact, I cannot believe someone with his knowledge - much more than my own - could come out with that... It was just weird. It was like he had no idea just how complete Hopkins' victory was, or what he did to make it.
And yet again Nady disgraced himself. He was hardly needed, yet the times he was called in he made himself look like an arsehole. Put this man in the amatuers and put him out his misery. He can make all the needless interventions and hand/elbow signals he wants without anybody bothering.

Good for you mate, I've got to have more courage in my convictions. Except when Chelsea and the Champions League are concerned.

That's the second Winky points win at excellent odds I've bottled out of. Stupid boy!

Wonderfull performance by Winky Wright I thought he may win but then get screwed by the judges. But what a great performance. What Wright did was so simple but so effective. I gave Wright every round.
I think Trinidad should retire now and Wright should go after Bernard Hopkins.

Excellent performance by Wright, that southpaw jab just smashed home all night and Wright won without using so many of the fast left hands he stunned Mosley with, he just didn't need them. Trinidad looked like a one dimensional club fighter with no ideas on how to counter.
I agree with Manos on the Hopkins point as well, when Bernard faced Trinidad he was a feared puncher with an unbeaten record, Hopkins dismantled him round by round after negating his power early on and set the blueprint for how to fight and beat Trinidad. Others had tried and failed earlier, De La Hoya outboxed him but ran late on and lost the decision, Vargas out boxed him at times but his chin wasn't up to the task and Joppy looked good when commanding the centre of the ring but could not resist the urge to stand and trade and paid the price.
Wright-Hopkins is a natural fight to happen now, Wright is a fighter for the purists, i enjoy watching him and he seems a man for the big occasion. He really raises his game in the big fights and looks a far cry from the guy who was outhustled by Harry Simon and the guy Larry Merchant had losing to Angel Hernandez on HBO a while back. Trinidad should retire, he has nothing left.

Great peformance by Wright, without trying to dampen his achievements that was nothing like the Tito of old he was fighting though. In fact he was terrible.
I cant believe the low blow warnings and deduction, I think there was 1 low punch the rest were well within the target area Wright practically had his trunks around his neck!
The Sky commentary was diabolical. Wright was clearly winning but they were going well over the top. At the end of the 7th round Watt even suggested Papa Trinidad should throw the towel in. They could have fought like that for 50 rounds and Tito would not have been stopped, Wright was jolting him with the rights and lefts but they were not really hurting him just frustrating him and putting him off balance more than anything.
Smith and Watt were at their very worst last night. Why does Watt have to find one point then just go on and on about it round after round. During the 8th I switched the sound off and watched without sound.
Sky need to either get rid of them or get them to tone down the shite they talk. Better still give us the live HBO feed with commentary.

It was nothing like the Tito of old because he has fought people made for him 90% of the time. Don't for one second try to say Tito wasn't in good nick.

That's ridicuous, he's fought practically everyone between Welter and Middle and he's fought people made for him 90% of the time?

I thought there was something amis with Tito, he didn't show any desire whatsoever, at the least you would have expected him to have gone hell for leather over the last 2-3 rounds, but he never even seemed to try.
He looked awful as well, pudgy faced, and his body was soft, there was a bit ripple of fat across his back, and there was no muscle definition at all, physically he didn't look like he had trained hard at all.
The commentator said something about the weights, I'm sure he said that the day after the weigh in, winky was well over 160, and tito was under the weight, which is very strange. I'm not making excuses for Tito, I'm not really a fan of his, but he didn't show anything like the desire I would have expected him. He simply trudged forward like a zombie, eating jabs all night long.

This is the reason I come on this forum, because it makes me want to brain myself against my framed picture of Hatton with his WBU belt when I think I'm the only one who notices this shit.

I think they said Wright was 171 lbs and Tito around 168?

Ahh right, that was it then. Tito looked so much smaller than Winky I thought. Winky looked good at middleweight physically.

I enjoyed that fight.
Tito would have struggled with a boxer like Winky even in his prime at welter, the extra weight and years just added to it.
Winky was naturally bigger and just used to fighting bigger fighters, the hype that follows Tito made him such a favourite.

It would be more boring than Hopkins-Eastman. We'd be waiting 30miniutes for them to throw a punch. Actually if Hopkins trys to dominate him it may be good but I think Hopkins is pretty much shot personally and Taylor will take him

Trinidad is just a befuddled moron. He's not shot, he can still fight good against alot of people... But anyone with real skils will make him look like the dunce he really is.

Trinidad isnt shot nor do I think 'he wasnt himself'. Its just that Winky Wright is a Supreme defensive fighter. Dont forget Winky essentially nullified Shane Mosely for 24 rounds of boxing. Sure Mosely has the excuse that his speed and power hasnt moved up the weights with him, but at the end of the day Winky never gives his opponents - with the exception of Harry Simon - the opportunity to get into their groove.
Winky's style of staying in range and wacking away at his opponent whilst being able to cover up and nullify his opponent's attacks is so effective that he sickens his opponents and they end up looking demoralised and pedestrian.

Agreed. It has been my opinion that Tito has been shot for a long time. I reckon they came back for the money.
I said some time ago that he was an accident waqiting to happen. He walks on his heels, has poor reflexes and very slow hands. He can see the punches coming but cant get out of the way. Classic sign of a shot fighter. I felt he would beat Winky, because I felt he would land late in the fight.
If Winky through caution to the wind, I reckon he could have forced a stoppage from round 5 on.
If Tito fights on he will end up with some form of Brain damage, if he hasnt got it already.
Winky v Hopkins, great fight for purists. Hokins is about the only fighter in the 154 - 160 range who can beat Winky at the moment.

I didn't think there looked anything wrong with Trinidad at all. At no stage after the first 30 seconds did I believe he had any realistic chance of winning that fight, so sharp was Wright.
What exactly would a "not shot" version of Tito done apart from hit more gloves and elbows? There was absolutely nothing he could have done to get past that air-tight defence.
Well done Winky, what a master boxer.
