Top 10 heavyweights post-Marciano

This should be a lot easier than an all-time top 10 because there aren't the great discrepancies in training, diet and sheer physical size that cause problems in all-time HW ratings. So just post-Marciano heavyweights, this is a tricky one:
1. Muhammad Ali
2. Larry Holmes
3. George Foreman
4. Sonny Liston
5. Mike Tyson
6. Lennox Lewis
7. Joe Frazier
8. Riddick Bowe
9. Evander Holyfield
10. Ken Norton
Not at all sure about the last 3. Okay, abuse me.

I didn't put Liston because we really don't know. Was he really paid off or did he just get KTFO.
Definitely Mike spinks, he fucked up the career of Larry Holmes and Jerry Cooney's as well.
Leon was great before doin' whatever the hell he did that messed his career up.
Well about Tyson........I think in his prime he could beat anyone. Except for Joe Louis.

Drink, drugs, women and lots of nightlife for our Neon Leon.
And not enough training.
He was a force of nature as an amateur though.

I've got plenty of respect for Spinks, but his heavyweight resume only really consisted of 2 controversial wins over an elderly Holmes, KO's of a washed-up Cooney and some bloke from Norway, and a 1 round blow-out at the hands of Tyson. Now I'll give the guy respect for pipping Holmes, but that in itself ain't much to go on. All-time top light-heavies, now we're talking.

In the only historically relevant fight when Frazier and Ali fought, both went in undefeated, only Joe came out unbeaten. Ali never beat an unbeaten version of Joe Frazier.
George Foreman was outfought and fooled with a use once only tactic, in a rematch (which ali never gave) foreman would have won, plus in a Foreman Vs all other champions i see him KOing more people, than Ali outboxing, thus his higher ranking.
Liston was in his prime, and even he had to be forced to lose by the mob, hardly an honourable victory. The Liston that blasted out Williams would beat most heavyweight champions.
Heavtweights-Post Marciano.

Grimm, how can you have Tyson at #1 just because you think he'd beat everyone except Louis? I mean based on accomplishments he is definitely not #1 - everytime he faced an all-time great, he came up short. (Holyfield twice, Lewis once). And he wasn't as far from his prime as Evander - don't go there.

I never mentioned achievements.
I base mine on who would beat who, no the ring magazine type ratings.

But who beats who is pure speculation. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to look at what they actually did in their career?

I do I look at what they did in their career how they fought, what advantages they have , how well they could use those advantages and what their weaknesses were.

Doesn't Joe Louis Barrow fit into this league? Lennox Lewis? George Foreman? maybe top 20. What about Jack "lil Arthur" Johnson?

Check this thread's title. I'm pretty sure Jack Johnson fought a few years before Marciano.

So from looking at Tyson's career, you can honestly say that he is #1?

I wouldn't put Bowe there. He had skills, but his only big achievement is the trilogy with Holyfield (where he lost the second fight and was lucky to fight sick Holyfield in the last fight). Apart from that... well, I have to admit he looked better than anyone else against opponents like Larry Donald, Jessie Fergusson, and so on. Still, I don't think that is enough.

Fair points. But who would you replace Bowe with in that 10?

Not by his achievments, by his skills.
