Jimmy Wilde...

This fighter has long fascinated me, partly because he had the all-time nickname in history, partly his dimunitive stature, his record and mostly because I read that Gene Tunney said Wilde was the best he had ever seen. Unfortunately most of what I've read on him was centered on the last two fights of his career. Could somebody educate me about Wilde, maybe point me in the direction of a worthwhile book or two?

Books by Wilde:

Art of Boxing + Fighting Was My Business.

Also a good read, and covers many Welsh boxers, is Welsh Warriors by Fred Deakin.

I'm not sure how many books have been written about Wilde, very few if in deed there are any others other than the one I've listed and I'm not sure how easy the one below is to come by:

I read where he had the ablitity to knock out heavyweights, they must have been pretty weak chined ones mind you, but still this guy was a tiny little man.

My ears were burning! Thanks for the kind comments guys!
'tonyevs' - that link showed i was very competitive actually! [And the book you quoted for £7 wasnt the one they were asking about].
Maybe you're one of those people who thinks everything is worth alot, and yet dont want to pay for anything........If you know anyone who has made a fortune out of boxing buying and selling, then let me know, and i ll go and see them in my ferrari! Its a labour of love, not something ive ever made my fortune doing.
And 'Owain' i smile alot actually..................just saying.

If your ears were burning, those posts are well over 6 years old!

I bought loads from you over the years and visited your shop many times, though haven't been there for several years. Have you still got the shop in Hay?
