Ruiz vs Valuev

It looks like Valuev was made WBA number one and mandatory for Ruiz, since he was due to fight a mandatory but his last mandatory defense agaisnt Toney was a NC.

Who would win this fight and why?

Ruiz will win.

Valuev will get exposed for stamina and doesn't have the power to really trouble Ruiz.

Looking at both Valuev and Ruiz recently I feel the Russian's size and strength would just bluegeon Ruiz to a mid-round stoppage. Might not be pretty.

Valuev quite comfortably...Would be very interesting to see what kind of tactics Ruiz would use, since his usually jab and grab wouldn't work

Valuev doesnt have power to trouble Ruiz??? have you actually seen Valuev fight? yes or no?
cause if u say Valuev hasnt enough power, u should look at Valuev vs Levin, or Etienne...

Absolutely, this giant has enough power to knock the Wrestler out. How should the Wrestler win? by KO? Impossible, he is too limited, his offense is horrible. On Points? could he score more than Valuev? Never. Valuev will be prepared for 12 rounds and will win mid-late KO or PTS.

Oh yes, the notoriously good chins of Attila Levin (who was outboxing him) and Cliff Etteine.

Its like saying, Joseph Chingangu is a deadly puncher for KO'ing Herbie Hide.

Ok, not saying that Valuev is any kind of boxing master, but Levin was definitely not outboxing Valuev. He was losing the jab war by a mile and decided to brawl but got caught by a right and went into a tail spin.

Could be that Levin was chinny, dont know, but he did not outbox the big guy. He was handled quite handily in fact.

it will be a strong psychological fighter who beats Valuev....

at the moment he doesnt appear to have chin or stamina problems, so when the going gets tough in there the opponents will "give up" mentally like they used to with Wlad and Tyson..... now people now Wlad is beatable they all give it a go same with Tyson...

you are right. and the fighter must be very very fast on his feet, must try to score and the run away and so on.

Not many heavyweights at present can beat Valuev simply cause of his size. Is he still fighting Akinwande next?

Levin was outboxing him??? dude, u should stop smocking crack !
and by the way a 7'0 330lbs man doesnt need to put on his punches a lot to hurt a 230 240 lbs guy...its like a middleweight fighting lightweight...every punch hurts

That is exactly how Valuev is effective. Pound 4 pound I don't think he is a massive puncher, he has just learned over the years how to use his weight to make his shots knock guys out.

Another factor with Valuev, is that due to his exceptional height, it's not too easy to defend against him, especially at long range. His punches tend to be delivered downward, and as said earlier, with that much weight behind them, even blocked they have a thumping pummelling effect. Once you go into a shell against someone that big it's easy for the ref to stop the fight.

Valuev isn't a knockout puncher, but he has a clubbing power which knocks his opponents all over the place, and referee's rightly step in when they see someone getting treated like a wayward stepchild.

exactly !! when u look at Levin fight, u can see Levin, altough blocking a lot of punches, is hurt through the gloves and puts a knee down !

My head says Valuev but then again Ruiz hasn't used up all of his nine lives yet has he? In the words of Frasier Crane "I could put a stake through your heart man but i don't think anything could kill you!"

Unless Valuev was once a middle weight, he's not getting a win over Ruiz. Only way a true heavy is going to take Ruiz's crown is to knock him out... and I just don't see that happening anytime soon. (But oh would I pay out the noise to see it!)

didnt Holyfield outpoint Ruiz in one of the fights? And that was the old Holyfield. And didnt Roy also outpoint Ruiz? And How about the decision Ruiz lost against Dannell Nicholson? And the one he lost on points against Sergey Kobozev?

You dont have to ko a man to beat him in boxing. Ruiz already dropped 4 decisions, was floored a few times and koed cold once. You make him sound invincible, but the truth is Ruiz can be koed, dropped and outpointed. His record prooves it. He is no push over; far from it. but why should it be necessary for Valuev to ko Ruiz in order to beat him? Was Roys victory any less convincing because he could not ko Ruiz? Is anyone, apart from Ruiz, deluded enough to think Ruiz really beat Roy because he was left standing at the final bell?

For the record, I think Valuev will actually ko Ruiz. But it is not necessary. Valuev can just as easily beat him comvincingly on points without leaving any doubt who the winner of that fight was.

Valuev should beat Ruiz (but everyone should). Ruiz finds a way to win usually. The way to beat Valuev is to fight with pressure inside. Although valuev isn't too bad inside. Also a slick in and out mover could beat him.

what you say is true. but then again, the division is not exactly swarming with fighters trhan meet the profiel you indicated. so, yeah, thats the way to beat him. But who of this sorry bunch can actually do it?
Somehow I dont see Ruiz fitting that profile very closely.
Do you?

The way I see it, Ruiz is wating for a fall. His performance lately has been weak. He will fold under pressure.
