Just reminiscing about Herbie on another forum I felt inspired to start a new thread to get any other "golden moments" from his illustrious career people can remember.

I think one of my favourite moments came when Lennox Lewis was asked by one of the Sky crew after a fight around 1998 - "What do you think about fighting Herbie Hide to see who is the best in Britain?", which was a phrase oft-used by a certain leading industry figure at the time. Lennox was so taken aback he was speechless for a moment, then he said "Herbie Hide? He'd better......err.....HIDE!"

...Sparking a brawl at Bethnal Green when Audley Harrison was Boxing. It was quality, one minute you could see Herbie in his lime green suit mouthing off and the next he was being bashed on the back of the head by a mob as he was trying to leg it...And the BBC televised it!

Yes, as I recall the fight outside the ring was more interesting than Audley's fight in the ring.

Quality stuff. Good old Herbie!

Herbie wrestling with that guy was great too, Michael Bennt wasn't it? Does anyone have that on video? It's classic TV.

His leg shivering on the floor after being drilled by Vitali's awkward jab(?)... a great moment.

Later claimed he hadn't been hurt and that it wasn't a proper punch (it wasn't, but it was still enough to shatter Herbie's china chin.)

When he got KO'd by Joseph Chingangu his eyes rolled into the back of his head making for a great reply!!

There should be a DVD brought out with all these called "Herbies Hidings".

It wasn't a proper punch which says even more about Hide's fragile chin, the first knockdown against Bowe was only a jab as well, everyone was expecting Hide to get straight back up but he was lying on the floor with glassy eyes.

Herbie saying he could beat Lennox Lewis during his second reign as "world" champion.

The proposed (apparently very close) Herbie vs Tyson fight in 1997 would have been funny aswell.

I was watching Hide vs Tucker the other day, and Herbie and Mr Alledgely said that win, lose or draw in the Holyfield rematch Herbie will probably fight Mike Tyson next there were on going discussions. Of course, nobody said win, lose, draw or DQ after biting Holyfield's ear.

I have to say I've had many a laugh at Herbie on the floor after Vitali knocked him down.

Didn't Herbie once he had got off the floor say somethink like "Well, he started it"

Had a look at Hide v Klitschko again today, and I still can't see what it was that glazed Herbie's eyes over. There is some evidence that he was thumbed just before the first knockdown as he has said, but it hardly explains how he was knocked out by a glancing jab. Not sure either why his corner that night consisted of Brendan Ingle and Sports Network matchmaker Ernie Fossey, neither of whom were likely to have been involved in his training. I think he was just "training" himself really, and drafted them in as cornermen, with the predictable disastrous results.

Maybe the quote from Frank Maloney is the nearest thing. When he was still riding Lennox Lewis' gravy train, he famously said something along the lines of "I'd be embarrassed to promote Hide challenging Lewis for the heavyweight title". That's some statement coming from Maloney! [/img]

When he got up he was like Bambi on Ice. I treasure moments like that.

I remember him having a fight in 1993 in Dagenham & Riddick Bowe was ringside. After the fight, they got them together to sit on the ring apron & discuss a proposed battle.

Hide was telling Bowe how he would beat him & he was touching Bowe on the face & telling him the areas he would punch him!!

I was thinking how brave he was to do that. Bowe remained very calm though & nothing came of it.

I strongly believe that the punches in the Bowe fight were actually just pushing the air around Herbie's chin, causing HH to go down

Saw Herbie's second? pro fight at Bethnal Green in late 90/early 91. Small HW with good athleticism.

Lasting memory of him - getting off the canvas several times against Bowe - he gets loads of stick and mostly deserved but it was a gutsy effort by a man who had no chance against such a big opponent

Oh well to give Herbie some credit, I also enjoyed his "fight" with an at least 50lbs overweight "Magic" Percy Davis. Davis actually taunting Hide, seconds later he would get sparked

I don't remember the fight but just checking Herbie's record, that fight must have been for the British title against Michael Murray, Dagenham, 27th Feb 1993. At the time Bowe had just beaten Michael Dokes and was WBA and IBF champion. Did Bowe's presence mean he was seriously interested in fighting Herbie at that time, before Hide had won his WBO trinket? What other reason did Bowe have for being in the UK, surely it wasn't to call out Lennox Lewis!

Bowe was on some sort of world tour at the time.

I think there was serious talk about fighting Hide. I personally feel it was done to rile up Lennox, whom Bowe had just ducked.
