Who do you think goes down as the unluckiest fighters ever? On a personal note I go for our boxer Glenn Catley. He was robbed in 4 mjor title fights (2 WBC & 2 EBU).

Robbed against Woodhall.

Cheated against Thobela. The WBC granted Catley a rematch on the evidence that Thobela's bandages were loaded. Only in boxing!

Robbed against Haussler first time. Given rematch by EBU.

Cheated against Haussler second time. The cut that stopped the fight was made from a Catley punch not a head as was indicated by the ref. They waited until the end of the 4th knowing that it would go to scorecards and that Haussler was in front due to the knockdown in the first. Catley was just coming on strong in the 4th. If they had stopped it before the end of the 4th it would have been a no contest i think. The Haussler corner can actually be heard discussing with the ref at the end of the third that they will pull him out after the 4th!

I go for Glenn's stablemate, Dean Francis. One fight away from a world title fight - and a low key tune up it was and his shoulder goes effectivelly ending his career.

Gotta feel a bit for Victor Polo he never won a World title after 3 split decision losses, a draw against Harrison and was soundly beaten by J.M Marquez

At one time Glen Johnson was the unluckiest, but how about Dale Brown now, or even Andrew Golota!

Herol Graham was unlucky, winning in two world title fights before getting knocked out.

On a sad note, Watson was one round away from beating Eubank.

Larry Holmes? (A great fighter but was unlucky to follow Ali)

And Larry Gains, an old time black fighter in the 30's, they say he had the talent to beat everyone but because of his colour he was never given a world title shot, ko'ed Schmeling in two.

The Dean Francis injury was a tragedy. He was different class.

You can't have Andrew Golota down on this thread, the guy effectively gave up in fights with Riddick Bowe, Mike Tyson and Michael Grant.

I agree Golota has not been unlucky he's had so many title chances that he didn't deserve after the way he boxed against Bowe Twice and Tyson!

Brodie was very unlucky not to win WBC title against Jorin.

He should have won the Ruiz and Byrd fights.

But noone will remember it, people will only talk about the Brewster fight.

Sam Langford, one of the most talented fighters ever, never got a title shot because of his colour, and died penniless and blind.

On a lesser scale Tony Dodson, injuries plagueing his scheduled fights with Froch and then having to sit on the sidelines while froch wins his british title and hooks up with oscar and fights in the US. Then getting injured again when preparing for his comeback fight.

Thats a good shout, I hope he does a Paul Hodkinson, who got his world title after such a brave losing effort to Marcos Villasana.

However, its looking less likely. He deserves a clash with the Brodie vs Harrison winner. I don't think his display vs Marquez has ruled him out of a lesser (but still geniune) version of the title.

As i moved down the pages to add Langford i was wondering if someone would beat me too it, one of the best guys never to win a world title. Also Stanley Ketchel was on a bit of a roll before a guy stuck a bullet in his back, i would say that was pretty unlucky too.
