what a matchup this would be???
i know most of u will think ezzard will win this one easily. but Floyd patterson and miek tyson has quicker hands than anyother heavyweight in history including ali. Patterson also had a pretty powerful left hook and hes a slick boxer and the funny thing is patterson became a better fight after he lost his title because he filled out more and became stronger and grew a better chin and he beat chuvalo, machen, (robbed against ellis), and bonavena .
charles and patterson was both slick boxers with power and are both around the same size i think it would be an interesting matchup with charles winning a close 15 desicion. 8 rounds to 7.

Charles had a much better chin than Patterson who was probably tougher some years after he was champion.... but either way I see Charles winning by a ko in about 9 or 10 rounds.
Also neither Patterson or Tyson had faster hands than a peak Ali... watch Ali vs Folley, Chuvalo1, Williams, Liston... no heavyweight had faster hands than Ali at his peak before he was banned.
It was actually proven by Jim Jacobs the boxing Historian (who part managed Tyson) that Ali had faster hands than Sugar Ray Robinson.... its basically a fallacy that Patterson had faster hands.

I think u underestimate floy patterson and need to watch some of his tapes. Even teddy brenner said his hands were quicker than ali's. PAtterson had extremely quick hands, just watch some of his earlier fights. Patterson developed a good chin when he got older and became a stronger and better fighter after he lost the title cause he wasnt so young anymore. Patterson is underestimated and charles doesnt have liston power. i think it owuld be a good matchup

Who are you to tell me to watch Pattersons tapes?... how many fights have you got of him?. You have no idea how many of his fights I have.
If you want to discuss boxing then fine, but you really need to lose your arrogant 'you need to blah blah' approach because it is childish and tiresome and makes me wonder if it is worth 'debating' with someone with such an attitude.
It would be a good matchup but Charles had a good punch of his own and was known as a 'deadly puncher' in the mid 40s until one of his opponents died and he became a much more conservative boxer afterwards. But at his best Charles carried a very dangerous punch and was a very quick finisher. This and the fact that he was a more solid all round fighter makes me think Charles would beat Patterson in his prime.

I think Charles would probably win a narrow decision. I think people predicting Charles by a knockout are just taking Patterson's lack of durability too far. Yes, Patterson had a very weak chin for a heavyweight champion, but the only guys who actually knocked him out were Johansson and Liston, two devastating punchers. Ali stopped him twice, but the first time Patterson was on his feet and was struggling with a bad back injury, and the second time Patterson was past his prime and was stopped on cuts.
Charles wasn't a big puncher. I don't see him knocking Patterson out, but he could hurt Patterson and perhaps score knockdowns. Patterson had a very powerful left hook, though, and I do think he would be equally capable of hurting Charles. I think Charles' counterpunching and less one-dimensional style would probably be enough to win him the day, but this is an interesting, competitive match.

Charles wins clear cut, one sided decision. He was strategically superior to Patterson and would school him with his educated left. In general he'd batter him but it would go the distance because Patterson was no quitter and Charles lost his meanness when Baroudi died.

Floyd vs. Ezzard would be an absolute barn burner.
The aggressive & trigger fisted Patterson vs. The Cincinnati cobra
Floyd's my fav. but to be honest I think Ezzard wins
I could see a 2 or 3 fight series here. Nobody dominates

I would say Charles would win 2 out of 3. Should be very competitive. You would think that a smart boxer like Charles would be able to handle Patterson's unorthodox "Jumping style".
Patterson hand speed (but no he wasn't as fast as Ali) could give Charles problems. Both were capable of knocking the other out, but there is a good chance it would go the distance.

I have no way of proving who had the faster hand speed, Ali or Floyd,
but Ali may have looked faster to you because everything worked off his jab. It is longer & easier to see as compared to Floyd who first had to get inside his opponet prior to unleashing his combinations. Floyd was a counterpuncher, working off the openings given to him by his opponet. His punches were shorter. Henry Cooper said Floyd had the quicker hands.

by Ezzard
Ezzard was just too well schooled to lsoe to the Peek-a-boo style. Charles just had too many strings to his bow. Floyd was quick and pwerful but I think ezzard was faster overall and fundamentally one of the greatest boxers to lace up a glove. Floyd was the bigger man, but again not big enough to make up for Ezzard's overall better ability.

I agree that it would be a great fight. Personal opinion: Charles over 15. Rematch? Charles over 15.
