Good quotes from both Witter and Froch on this one nice to see them slagging off fringe titles, there is a real bite developing between those two and some of the Sports Network fighters.

Both genuinely want to fight the best available and you can't fault that IMO.

I'm sorry but I think its a little bit hypocrital for a few reasons.
1) Wasn't Witter chasing Hatton for his WBU title for a number of years. It didn't matter what belt was going - it was the biggest financial fight out there for Witter at that time.
2) Carl Froch is saying the same thing, but only rarely seems to be interested in Calzaghe for the WBO belt, is that a great belt? Again its the big fight for him financially.
Not that I am saying its wrong for them to go for the financial side of things and maybe with DLH's backing and them getting a good exposure stateside perhaps the big financial fights will also involve the big geniune titles.
However, to say they are doing things the old fashioned route and not interested in Spurious titles is a bit cheap giving who they have been calling out for ages. They are interested in the money side of it.

To be fair to both guys I dont think any of the calling out had anything whatsoever to do with titles, just a matter of domestic pride.

1. Witter wanted HATTON. Witter doesn't care about a WBU or a WWF belt, he wanted Ricky "The duckman" Hatton and Hatton completely ducked him, no question. Are you saying Witter wouldn't have called Hatton out if he didn't have the WBU?
2. Froch also doesn't care about the belt. He wants recognition, unlike other greedy fighters who DUPE their fans and the boxing "anoraks" like us.

Yeah totally agree with you split decision. I think its more of a case of Witter and Froch calling out the best domestic fighters in their respective divisions, so as to be the champ in their own backyard (ie Britain) before they look elsewhere - and quite rightly so, as per the "traditional" way.

However, that is "Wrong" according to posters here and the ducking of Witter by Hatton is accepted.

Witter will be the #1 Brit in the division come Sunday morning... ;)

Witter ran like a thief against Judah, then beats 15 stiffs, wins a very close decision against N'Dou, and now he is the one earning his shot the hard way.
Please, spare me, Witter, Hatton is fighting the number one man in the world. And you know what, Hatton will put up a fight, he may not win, but he will try to win.
Witter stunk the place out against Judah, Hatton wont do the same against Tszyu, who by the way, Iced Judah in less than two rounds.
As for Froch, he is not in Clazaghe's league.

yawn, and remind me who junior is fighting next again?
ahh thats it the TERRIFYING ANDREAS KOTELNICK.
Nuff said. Concentrtate oin you boxing instead of mouthing chaps.
its what you are doing in the ring that counts not at the press conferences.
Dont get me wrong id love to see Junior do well but he doesn need to forget hatton and make headway he aint getitng any younger neither.
As for him being the numbe rone in the division unless Hatotn gets pounded, which i dont think will happen then no he wont be the number one in the british division. Still.

It has to be said, that apart from N'dou, Witter, has generally faced off against inferior opposition, you can knock the likes of Stewart, Tackie and Phillips for various reasons, but a lot of the guys Witter faced were European level pigeons who never had any hope.
There's not a lot in it, and I do think that his win over N'dou is just slightly superior to beating the likes of Tackie, but let's not forget, he had a few dodgy moments in there, despite decking the shit out of him early.
I hope both men meet somewhere down the line, and I can see it happening. Hatton may well not get through Tszyu, but I don't think there's many will be able to beat him, and after Cotto's performance against Corley, I'm not convinced he's the unassailable titan he's been built up to be. Win or lose, Hatton remains one of the top men in the division, and Witter looks to be good enough on his best night to take a title.
Come on Ricky!

Some good points made by all, however i have to disagree somewhat that Froch and Calzaghe were only chasing there respective targets for there alphabelts.

Agree Steve, I don't think i've ever heard Witter or Froch even talk about getting a shot at the title just the fighter.
Also with regards to Andreas Kotelnick, by the sounds of things this should be a tough fight (I have never seen him). Fair play to Witter for taking on his Euro mandatory whilst he waits for a shot at one of the big boys. It's better than taking on Ray Oliveira.
Still living in hope they can one day meet in a unification fight...
Come on Ricky!!!

Since the Judah fight 5 years ago (which Junior took on less than a weeks notice) he has knocked out 14 b-standardish opponents and Battaglia (only one of them managed to see the 5th round where he was promptly KO'd) and the only resaon N'Dou saw the final bell was because he has a granite chin, 99% of Light Welters would have been sparked with the shots that Witter landed, so for someone to condemn Junior as a runner as I have just read is extremely harsh.
Witters next opponent is decent IMO, Kotelnik is not a respected name yet, but is a worthy and testing opponent. Kotlenik is mandatory for his Euro title, he only has one loss on a debated split decision to M'Baye and Kotelink was an outstanding amateur who holds a win over Cotto.
Hopefully with this forthcoming win, his win over N'Dou and the backing of Golden Boy he can land himself a shot at a respected title and then hopefully a War of the Roses battle with Ricky, which might even be a unification clash

and the only fight we have that could rival the Benn Vs Eubank clashes

I know but there are certain Hatton nutlickers on here who put Junior down. The fact is,Kotelnik would beat the Oliveras, Phillips, Smiths/Vilches etc. Witter then DOES Ndou and pisses all over Hatton and Calzaghe by doing what they were scared to do and then he doesn't get the full credit he deserves.
He will get his credit in due time.

People should be championing Junior Witter not slating him. Witter was well and trully froze out by Allegedly, whilst Hatton avoided him disgracefully.
So what does Witter do, he becomes British, Commonwealth and European Champion and is actually one of the few British fighters to go and showcase his talents in America.
Witter may be fighting rubbish fighters but remember if he had his way he would of fought Ricky Hatton. It makes no difference at all that Hatton has fought the higher calibre of fighters, for the only way to decide who is actually better is for the fighters to fight. Unfortunately Hatton spoke volumes when he made his choice not to.

HANG ON, NO ONE IS SLATING JUNIOR HERE.
its a reaction to hatton being called a coward, a fraud etc etc.
I think you will find its not hatton himslef who was bothered about fighting witter but his managemeet may not have liked the fight as it didnt make sense for reasons discussed beofre til im blue in the face. (Too risky a fight for too little reward) NOT hatton himslef
If hattons is as some folk on here contstantly rant, a coward and a fraud why the fornicate would he be goin in the ring with a man like Zoo. Ask yourself this do you honestly think Ricky is afraid of Witter but would fight Kostya thats just bollox. it doesnt make any sense.
Its no a case of not championing junior, its a case of we should be championing both fighters.
as ive said all along however that becomes increasingly difficult with some of the retarded and false posts on Ricky's career by some of the imbeciles who seem to think its funny to use the word "coward" when referring to a man about to take on the best in the business.
that in itself tells you what type of idiot we are dealing with here.
I wish both of them Ricky and Junior the best of luck.

Read all the posts on this thread and regardless of the reasons, you will see examples of Junior Witter being slated.

You sound exactly like a thieving, money-grabbing promoter. We the public want good fights, not economics. However I recall that Maine Road was touted as a venue, with predictions coming from the Hatton camp of a sell-out. The fight would have made money - no doubts. Hatton has the support base to make any fight financially viable. Its too convenient to say that Witter has no supporters and so he doenst bring enough to the table. I hadnt realised that the likes of Jason Rowlands or Joe Hutchinson (?) had brought such huge support.
However on boxing terms such a fight with Witter could only have been good for Hatton. You're correct Hatton isnt a coward he is taking on one of the best pound-4-pound fighters in the World. However I would argue that Hatton (its not necessarily his fault - ie Kelson Pinto bottled it) has never been in with a real, live dangerous opponent nor has Hatton been in a fight where his chance to win has been 50% or less. This will count against Hatton when he gets in with Kosta. It is poor preparation on Hatton's part that he has taken the "non-risk route" to the championship, he will be taken places he has never been and thus wont have the experience to rely on.
Great credit to Ricky for taking the fight, and I hope he wins and im wrong.

im bored of all this siding with one and not the other.
however i dont hear people callling junior a coward, fraud or whatever.
the people who do this and they know who they are, should shut the fornicate up and show some respect.
