He tried to wade straight through Phillips, but once he started to slow around the fifth Phillips went for broke and hit him with an absolute barrage of right hands for many rounds in a row, flooring him for a count of 1 in the seventh and finally stopping him on his feet in round ten.

Haven't seen anyone say Kostya was unbeatable? Judah's speed gave him plenty to think about in that fight and a rematch would be very interesting indeed, especially considering how well Zab has done a weight up. A fight with Mayweather Jr. would also be a pick'em.

As for his defeat: Tsyzu walked through Philips for the first few rounds, but dookus is spot on - around the fifth Vince kept coming on strong and Kostya appeared to gas. The fight was about even on the scorecards by the 10th, but I'm sure there was talk in Philips' corner about pulling him out (he had a nasty gash over the right eye). He came out in that 10th and landed a nice right hand that Tsyzu walked into, then followed it up with a flurry on the ropes and the ref jumped in.

Tsyzu has since shown himself to be a better fighter now than he was back then. He wouldn't be as reckless and have such disregard if an opponent is still there after the first four: today, he'd be more likely to settle back and box, pace himself, rather than fight all out. As for punching himself out... you've got to worry about that with any 35 year old fighting at his level.

Tszyu hadn't trained hard for the fight with Phillips , He was in a court case for the months leading up to the fight and sat in court all day while training at night. He lost the decision in court and lost about 2-3 million.

Like they said above he was winning the early rounds and got tired around the 6th and took about 4 rounds of huge shots before the ref stopped the fight.

Ben is correct about Kostya.
Kostya had many distractions leading up to the Vince Phillips fight. That legal case was playing heavily on his mind plus I feel as though he really underestimated Vince Phillips. After all Vince had just been blown away by Ike Quartey so I think Kostya was expecting to do the same.

The distractions and the poor preparation cost him in the Vince Phillips fight. It is good to see that he has learnt from those mistakes and has rebounded as world champion however I always felt he should have given Vince Phillips a rematch.

Not only was Kosta under prepared..... Philips was a lot better than anyone thought he would be (very much like Tyson V Douglas)....

Kosta took many huge punches in the fight and although he got stopped he proved his chin in that fight

Exactly. Even a badly prepared Tszyu took countless clean shots on the chin from a proven puncher before he got stopped. Exactly my thinking in saying Hatton cant knock out Tszyu.
