I'm the only one who noticed that on the replay, right before Brodie took a knee, Mickey toss--pot by royal appointment-Vann motioned to Harrison to keep his punches up after two admittedly borderline low blows. I won't pretend that I didn't want Brodie to win, but I also thought that Harrison would, but if a ref gives a(n again adimttedly) minor warning for a foul in that kind of circumstance he should not begin a count.
That's my rant, Brodie was winning and should have been given five minutes. I hope somebody makes a stink, because if nothing else that is refereeing hypocricy.

The shots were borderline in that they landed on the waistband, in my view nothing too serious, particularly as most boxers tend to have their shorts above waist level nowadays. The finishing shot was a solid body shot. Much as I, too, wanted Brodie to win it just wasn't to be.

Brodie has just announced his retirement. Good luck to him he ducked no-one and can hold his head high.

There was nothing wrong with either of those shots. Shots on the waistband are allowed if the shorts are pulled up that high.

No controversy here.

As you say, they were nothing too serious (just wanted to get that in before a certain prick resurfaces and resumes slanging accusations of racism against me again) they were borderline, I will afirm that myself but Brodie looked to me walking that after the first and to reafirm my earlier remark for a ref to warn for low punches and then begin a count is simply bullshit. This is fomr 'Mr won't separate two fighters'. I dunno...Sometimes I just wonder about all this shit in English rings. It's sickening sometimes, I just hope Mikey notices what I did when he watches the tape and lodges a complaint. I think there should be a rematch.
(btw I'd pick Harrison to win that too, see I'm not an Irish Celt who's racist against Scots Celts. The ignorant pudendum I'm reffering to knows who he is).

Come on, no complaint required. Harrison landed about 4 shots in that flurry they were all legit not one was low.

You're making something out of nothing.

A shot on the waistband is not low.

It was a very good body shot (that was'nt low), the five minutes you suggest that Brodie should have had is irrelevant because Brodie didn't want to continue.

I thought it was a legit shot myself, I would like to have another look at the shot at the end of the third though.

Brodie didn't complain, so I think there shouldn't be any complaint.

The shot at the end of the third was high up right in the ribcage just under his arm.

The finishing shot was definitely fine as were the ones the led up to it. On the waistband is not low when the shorts are pulled up.

Spot on. I just watched the end of the third round again and it was a left hook to the ribs that did the damage.

The fight was as good as over then. I thought he'd broken a rib actually from the way he winced at the end of the round and the shot being that high. But seemingly not, he didn't mention anything after the fight.

I think if the fight had been a couple years back Brodie would have got up and fought on but he just didn't have the heart to get back up. That's not a slight by the way but his heart wasn't really in it - you could tell that in the post fight interview.

If the Harrison fight had taken place before the Chi fights I have no doubt that Brodie would have beaten Harrison without too much trouble.

Harrison really needs to introduce some head movement. Without it he's a sitting duck for the likes of Chi, Marquez etc.

Look lads, I never said it was a particularly bad low blow, what I'm pointing out is the ref told Harrison to keep his punches up, so he obviously decided it/they were low and then started a count. If you taped the fight then watch the rplay and you'll see what I'm talking about. If anything I'm pissed off about typical Vann/SN bullshit, seriously, it really infuriates me. That's the sort of shit we've got to look forward to tomorrow night.
I needn't bother to mention that Brodie actually beat the count either.....

At least I got one agreement...........That's something for the old epitaph anyway.

It could be that they were borderline i.e. good shots but Vann was just telling him to watch it. There were low punches earlier in the fight.

Brodie did not really beat the count, he did not want to continue so dont see how anyone can complain about the referees stoppage? He got up at 9 and a half. The fighter has to be up and ready to resume action before 10 which he certainly wasn't.

OK so I just watched the end of the fight again and guess what ? you're right! Vann did wave his hands to tell Harrison to keep his shots up BUT that would be because ,as I said previously, the previous 2 shots were borderline - fair enough really as the finishing shot was perfectly legal.

Didn't see any controversy but I'll definitely look out for it in the replay. Looked like Mikie got caught, simple as. I thought the fight would be like rounds 2 and 3 for most of it, with him eventually getting caught similar to the way he did. Huge respect to Brodie for hanging in there during the first and for giving such good fights in general over the years. Glad it wasn't the prolonged war it could have been, and he didn't get tuned up. That was my main fear for this fight.

Agree with Barry McGuigan's post fight comments - me and my friends lost a lot of respect for Harrison when he turned down Marquez. From the minute the draw was announced with Polo I just knew Marquez would want him. I'd have made Marquez a heavy favourite because of his style, but he ain't unbeatable if he turns up flat - as he has done plenty, both recently and in the past.

Nobody has mentioned about the Brodie injury in sparring leading up to the fight. Brodie was put down by a body shot in sparring, which would suggest that it was still a problem come fight time - that's the way it looked to me, because the body shot didn't seem great at all. After the bell ended the third, Brodie got caught with a body shot and almost doubled over, you can just see it in the far view of the camera, although the commentary never picked up on it. Harrison did though, as he came out immediately the next round looking for the body.

I saw bianca vann wave his arms about just befor the stoppage. I thought this is going to be a disqualifaction. I know the shots were borderline but the point mrbassie is making is true. If van thought the shots were illegal why did he then take up the count. this isnt a rant about anything else but van as i cant stand the man. Just my views on the matter.

I think it was Andy Morris, they mentioned it on Sky.

I noticed that Dean at the time and wondered what the commentators were up to! You could even see Harrison turn as he was going back to his corner and Peter Harrison was having a good look at what was going on aswell.

Yeah, pissed me off so much I stayed up to watch the replay thinking they might dispense with the adverts and show the between rounds. No luck.

Helped get the old sleep pattern fucked up for tonight, though. :TU:

You could see it on Sky. Watch the end of the third in that far right of the screen Brodie doubles over on the way back to his corner. Then you get a shot of Harrison and his dad looking over.

Were you watching on Showtime? If so what was the American reaction please?
