How does Butterbean stay that big? Boxing training is tough and makes you lean, yet he's fat. :-?

Yeah look at James toney, He probably sneaks in junk food at night when freddi Roach isnt looking. yet hes still the best because he knows how watered down the hevayweights are today and he knows he can eat all the junk food he wants and still beat these bums.

ARE THEIR ANY HEAVYS OVER 400 POUNDS??

Before he took up toughman contests and was working on a building site Butterbean was over 400lbs.

He got the name Butterbean as he used a lot of Butterbeans in his diet to help lose weight.

There was a 6-7 American fighter, former firefighter (if I recall exactly) who fought as a pro betwwen 450-460lb. He was blond guy. (dnt know if he had bleached hair).
Forgot his name. He was a former Golden Gloves guy in his state. The name escapes me.
He went no where, thoush he di win a few fights. He was trying to land a fight with Butterbean but that didnt go through either.

Generally fighters that that heavy dont do very well. The stamina is not so good. But then again, the movie The bigger they are the harder they Fall, might have created an unconscious bias agaisnt very big fighters. IT may turn out to have been a wrong assumption. Time will tell.

Well Floyd Patterson was really 415lbs, he just trimmed down due to his harsh training regime.

Barry,

I know the heavyweights have no upper limit, but for people this big, perhaps there should be a ban on. Nothing agaisnt them, nor deying them a chance to earn some money, but with so much weight and boxing being the brutal and dangerous sport that it is, a heart attack risk is just too much. These fighters should not be allowed to fight for medical reasons. they should meet a mandated 350 or at most 400lb weight. OR make is a % of fat to body weight. No one with more than 20% fat to body weight ration hsould be allowed to fight and hteir fights should not be sanctioned.

These obese fighter risk death in the ring and then the press will start new calls to ban boxing saying it is too dangeros.

500lb!!! The guy is a walking heart attack risk. did he fight any good?
the only thing these guys could have is a hard punch. Their stamina has to be like 1 round. 2 rounds tops. then the lighter, faster foe would have a target practice work out.

The no more than 20% body fat idea is a good one I think. :TU:

Jab---I completely agree! The guy had a piss-poor record, something like 2-4-0, but I've never seen him. The person that brought him up asked what happened to his career and I figure that he was even more of a sideshow joke than Butterbean, which I never thought I would hear myself say!

There was also that USA Gridiron player Perry? The Fridge? Who took part in a toughman contest a few years ago against some 7ft basketball player.

Perry was a huge dude but had to quit after about two rounds as he was completely shattered and winded.

Thats the guy I was talking about above. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

So after 2001 he gave up on boxing. I wonder why? He was talking of fighting Butterbean for that Super Heavyweight title. That would have been the first fight where Butterbean would have been outweighed by his foe.

Frank could jab pretty fast. Seems like that wa his only major punch. He could eveb hook off the jab, which is impressive for someone that heavy.

I wonder why he quit boxing?

Great list Barry,

man, these are so many whales around the ring!

Point is if a fighter is above 300lb he better be around 7`or else he wont be anything but a side show.
I think a weirs class is needed for the extra fat and extra tall boxers. Make a 270lb+ class and let the fatsos and the basketball players and the giants fight for its belt. IT would be entertaining, possible needed for the very tall guys and it will not affect the heavyweights at all, as they could still remain the premier class in the 200-270lb range.
It would be a nice side show. the weird factor may add to the entertaining part of boxing and may even attract marginal fans.

I reckon any already 300lb plus dude can eat himself to some stupid size and then find a pair of shorts (or maybe a tent!), and lay claim to being the heaviest heavyweight. It doesnt mean anything unless he can fight as well as he can eat!
But who was the Heaviest Heavyweight champion ?
I have an old link here :
http://www.ibhof.com/ibhftape.htm
It would suggest Primo Carnera was the heaviest champion at 260lb.
