Ricky Hatton P4P?

I havent seen the fight yet (its showing here tomorrow) so I will have to wait before I can judge where to put him on my pound for pound list. A victory over Tszyu surely makes him top 10 doesnt it?
At a guess judging by what I have read, I would probably have him around 6 or 7.
Fantastic Victory. I did tip him to win, but it was more of a I hope he wins then he actually will kind of tip. Well done ricky.

Definitely make sure you catch the fight. I decided very late on to get it ordered and caught the last round of the David Barnes fight and then it was onto the main event. As ever you get that slight thought of "I hope this doesn't just last the one round!" - but I am so glad I bought it now. Excellent fight, bit of a wrestle in the early rounds - but Ricky was so determined and it paid off.

This whole 'pound for pound' stuff doesn't work like titles.

Well... what is the criteria for being a P4P?
39 fights, 39 wins, and you just beat one of thebest in history?
If that doesn't get you in the P4P top 10 what the fornicate does? Do you have to butt-fornicate Godzilla or something?

I think that you probably have to win a few fights/defend your title at the very top level before people start talking you up as one of the best P4P

Agreed. Beating a future Hall of Famer is a handy start but Ricky needs a few more fights at this kind of level to be fairly assessed in the P4P stakes.

Had to laugh when Ring magazine put Antonio Tarver at #2 or something stupid. I said it was way too high, and, shock horror, he gets beat by a guy with 9 losses in his next fight. Sometimes you just find a niche, or have a style to beat a fighter who is inherently better than you. That is why, for me, I rank 'pound 4 pound' guys in the range of styles they have proven themselves able to beat. Hopkins can adapt to any style and deserves his place at number 1. Mayweather has adapted to plenty too, so did Tsyzu during his time in the ranks, etc. Hatton is above Margarito, Ouma and all them on the verge of the top 10, or maybe at the bottom of it. But let's not get carried away and put him at #4 or 3, or wherever Tsyzu was. Standalone victories go some way, but they're not the most important criteria.

Agree, just because you beat a P4P rated fighter it doesn't mean you automatically inheret his standing, it just doesn't work like that.
In fact I don't think anybody cracks the top 10 P4P list with 1 win, a 2nd win over a Mayweather or Judah would rightly see him take his place in the P4P top 10 or failing that a string of defences against quality challengers might see him get into the lower reaches of the top 10.
Anyway it's all subjective which is why I generally don't click on threads with P4P in the title.

that's just fornicating stupid mate.
So one victory over a p4p fighter makes you a top p4p fighter. Nonsense. Kostya was P4p material because he had 13 defences of the title, and had destroyed all the other top contenders.
I think also the fact that Tszyu was nearer the end of his career than the beginning casts a little doubt. All credit to ricky, he made Kostya realise he didn't have it left in him to continue, but he has to defend his title to go top 10 p4p.

Ditto. It's all mythical - the main purpose being for marketing. Unfortunately fighters nowadays (like Mayweather) seem to take it way too serious. DLH is to blame, in my view.

If HAtton Butt fucked Godzilla, I would put him at number 2 behind Hopkins.
But if he drilled King Kong as well, definitely number 1.
But in all seriousness, apart from the fact p4p is essentially speculative nonsense, Hatton deserves to be at least number 10....

Only if he shafted Mothra as well, Mothra's style gave Godzilla all kinds of problems.

Well perhaps, but then I've seen others going into the P4P 10 without achieving a great deal more. Tarver for one, and he went to No 2, not just No 10! Vernon Forrest shot right up the P4P rankings after beating Mosley in 2002. Who the fornicate had he beaten of note prior to that???? Raul Frank for the vacant IBF title???
I'm not actually saying Ricky is a P4P'er, I said "what qualifys"?
He's done as much as some of the others I've seen on the various listings at various times. Though he isn't American so probably has to be twice as good to make the list. The whole thing is a load of nonsensical supposition anyway and can be endlessly debated......

The funniest inclusion in the top 10 PFP is Calzaghe, oh how I chuckled at that one

I wouldn't say Hatton is quite in the top 10 P4P in the world scene as a result of the one win. People can be a bit hasty with putting in fighters due to one win (Ricardo Mayorga).
If Hatton can get another belt of beat a one more elite class fighter - Junior Witter and above, no lower then he would sneak in.
However, I will be changing the British P4P rankings that I place as a sticky in the next couple of days. I think it is time a long standing #1 got removed.

"And the 26-year-old wants this to be just the start of him becoming a legend.
"Kostya Tyszu is an all-time great, he has unified the belts and then came back after a two-year absence and flattened his number one contender.
"One fight does not make you an all-time great, you need a series of victories and that's what I want, starting with Tyszu."
I think the man himself knows he's not P4P yet. But you definitely have to have him looking right in, and a win against Mayweather would elevate him right up there.

I had to dig this thread out after reading this page on the BBC site, written by a muppet who wouldn't know boxing if he got Claude Abrams job and watched it for 150 years.

A lot of American writers I know have Calzaghe on the verges of top 10, if he beat someone of real note, he would definetly crack most people's top 10.
Hatton could just crack top 10 right now, but one more big win and he is a possible top 5. just needs another big win to prove that it wasn't just a run down Tszyu he beat.

That is quite possibly the worst top 10 list i've ever seen
Calzaghe would 'blow away hopkins' what based on struggling with kabary Salem?
Morales is top dog, after losing to Barrera who only makes 6th, behind Calzaghe who's best win is still over Eubank?
