In the ring Hatton was 147, Tsyzu 149 and a half.

Hatton did the weight a lot better than usual, he looked better on the scales, better in the fight and put on a lot less weight that usual

I'm surprised to learn that Hatton was 147. I expected him to come in nearer 154, as he has supposedly done in the past.

I hope he takes it on board, though. Clearly a longer training camp has great benefits: If he was 'only' up to 147 on the night, it's safe to assume he was cutting the weight quicker , and more dramatically in the past. He must have weighed more on the night of, say, the Steven Smith fight. But whilst it's one thing to throw the likes of Smith or Rios around the ring, to outmuscle Tsyzu, whilst taking the shots coming back, is another matter.

Hatton has always looked strong at the weight, and always looked ready to go full-tilt for 12 rounds. But this weekend he looked superb. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to notice that: A: He didn't look as gaunt at the weigh-in, and B: Not only was he chiselled in the upper-body, his legs looked massively developed.

If he was 147 on the night, it was all muscle, not just mass. I'm not convinced about fighters putting on close to (if not more than) a stone in 24 hours (Harrison looks a prime candidate to come unstuck, he looked awful at the weigh-in, truly drained. Brodie couldn't take advantage, maybe others can) it seems too drastic a shift. Hatton looked all power in there. If he can throw Tszyu around, he can seriously dominate other guys.

Although Tszyu was the more overtly muscular of the two, Hatton had bigger shoulders and the broader back he looked too strong for Tszyu in the clinches, and that's where I think the fight was won.

That's actually an amazing weight when you consider how he had a fry-up and all that. I read a quote somewhere from Hatton that said he was able to eat anything he liked in the preparations for this one. I remember Michael Gomez saying something similar during his preparations for the Arthur shocker. Is the method they used for their weight well known in the nutritional trade? Phenominal_Nutrition, do you know? Or is it Kerry Kayes' own private method?

I was under the impression hatton was able to eat more during this camp. He said that he was on 7 meals a day, which enabled him to "eat like a pig". But the contents of the meals was much the same as before, steamed vegetables and fish/whit meat.

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah, that's what I remember Michael Gomez saying as well, except I think it might have been 6 meals he had said. He was also drinking X many litres of water a day, etc. Both those guys acheived phenominal fitness, huge respect for Kerry Kayes and the whole conditioning team.

You can easily eat 6 or 7 small meals a day and shift the weight. I got myself from 13 stone to 11 stone 6 in a month doing it - without a nutritionist!

Its about eating the right foods and exercising to add muscle which burns more calories and bodyfat.

I think we may see longer Hatton training camps now as its obvious it suits him better removing the weight over a longer period of time.

I am very surprised to hear Rocky only weighed 147 come fight time, especially considering the food he consumed before hand!

Kerry Kayes is some numtritionist, the man knows his stuff inside-out. Hatton has a great team behind him.

When you consider the picture of Hatton with Bernard Manning in Boxing Monthly, to the shape he was in a the weigh-in, Kerry Kayes is an extremely influencial part of the camp.

THEY HAD TO BE WITHIN 10LBS OF THE 140 LIMIT ON FIGHT WEIGHT AS THE IBF RULES STATE.

From today's Times (together with a photo of Ricky wearing his "crap shirt" yesterday).

Hatton said that he began training for the bout 3st above the light-welterweight limit at “around 13st” — “A very round 13st,” as Bobby Rimmer, his assistant trainer, said.

“I keep saying I want to be more disciplined with my weight but, after a month, it seems to go for a burton,” Hatton said. “But I really am going to try this time. I’m just making life difficult for myself.”

Now well all know that Hatton is superbly conditioned fighter, and comes in the ring 100%, but surely he cannot go on having to shed 3stone in a training camp, getting down to 10st, can he?

I mean, that is a great deal; of weight to shift. In fact, if you took some other light-welters and they put on 3st, they would probably never fight at Light-welter again?

Lets hear what you guys think.

I remember when I was about 16, I boxed in the junior ABA's at York Hall as a bantamweight, and shortly after I sustained a hand injury that kept me out for eight months. In that time I went up to 10st 10lbs.

But I fought the next November at 9st 1lb.

I used to just eat one meal a day for two weeks before a contest.

Mad really.

They weighed them on the day of the bout lunchtime (24 hours after the weigh-in), they showed footage of them going to Hatton's house on Sky. So they had to be within 10lbs then. They weren't weighed on fight night as far as I know so those weights for Hatton and Tszyu are probably from the lunchtime weigh-in the IBF officials did.
