Russian heavy Nikolai Valuev will not be on Sauerland Event´s July 16 show and the planned showdown with Henry Akinwande is off. Valuev, the WBA # 1 will instead concentrate on a possible interim titlefight in September or go straight for John Ruiz.

From todays news: Valuev will by the way not, repeat not, take part in an "interim" titlefight as indicated in yesterday´s report but possible in an eliminator before challenging WBA heavy champ John Ruiz.

Golota if Dick Kon gets him grubby little way. That actually made me sick, the way he spoke about giving Golota another crack at the WBA like that as if he owned it. (Yeah, I know he does pretty much, but to be so blatent and open about how he basically controls WBA title fights and all the rest is an absolute joke.)

Yeah, Golota seems to have more chances given than anyone else in recent memory.
Would be a good practice for Valuev, but frankly Golota does not deserve to have an eliminatory for yet another Title fight. He should win a few fights before given this chance.

And also Valuev should have one or two fights before being given a shot at Ruiz. I think that Valuev will beat Ruiz anyway, but still he should earn his title shot.
IT would help him too, because Ruiz is a veteran and knows many tricks Valuev does not yet know.

But a Golota fight probably wont help Valuev in terms of learning any new techniques, because Golota seems mentally not into boxing anymore. The Brewster fight was just shameful. Golota should know better than come dry for a titel fight. IT is not like he is an amator who doesnt know any better. Seems more like he didnt care anymore.

Reportedly Golota didn't want anyone else but Colonna to wrap his hands with tapes (sorry my english here, I hope you know what i mean). And Colonna was in Adamek's corner of course. So Golota got his hand's wrapped only 10-15 minutes before the fight.

Is Colonna a poor trainer or Golota dumb, i don't know, but it is something wrong here.

But the fact Golota was wrapped only 10-15 minutes before the fight doesnt mean he should have come bone dry. You can still break a sweat, shadow box, stretch etc, even if your hands arent wrapped.

Golota should have known better, after all he is pro and already had two title fights! Its not like a he was a green guy who had the excuse of not knowing any better.

He was dry and was caught before he could get into his rhythm.

I'll just add in - WBA April rankings, Golota not in the top 15. (these created 24th May, after the Brewster fight.) So if Golota/Valuev becomes an official eliminator, that is an absolute crock of corrupt and puppetry shit. There's 8 or 9 guys who now deserve a shot. Nothing against Golota, of course.

Also, said this before, but that is shit how Valuev's camp drag Akinwande out of semi-retirement and then drop him.

Sod the lot of them, I tell you. The WBF is the sanctioning body for me, and alledgedly is a squeeky clean pussy cat

I agree, it was rotten. But it was not Valuevs fault. It the promoting outfit that employs him that dragged the old Akinwande into the ring hoping to give Valuev some experience against a tall guy with long reach and good experience.
Akinwande though will get a few fights, regardless if Valuev goes on to fight Ruiz or fights Akinwande first. Henry will make some money, but he is going to retire soon. I dont think he entertained any long term plans.

I'm not saying it's Valuev's fight at all (fight? FAULT) at all, and I'm sure uncle Henry won't be suicidle at the news or anything. I also think Valuev has earned, or is at least blaringly obviously primed up for a WBA shot. Just grumbling at the general scum politics of it all.

Anyway this Valuev guy is something else!!!

First time I've seen him fight and it was bizarre
So much so my housemate who's not into boxing whatsoever watched the whole thing with an open jaw! Etienne was 6ft 2" (according to the commentator) has beat Lamon Brewster, and is considered a solid heavyweight gatekeeper, but he looked like a flyweight tackling a Cruiserweight!!

Valuev was tossing him around the ring, pushing him over, and even knocked him on his arse when Etienne tried to run into him!! He looks mean as well, maybe he can create waves in the heavyweight division?
Not a great spectacle but worth tuning into..

Anyway as a side note who else thinks the Eurosport Boxing commentator is quality?!
Has to be the best in the business!

That fight last night was hilarious, i couldnt stop laughing when Ettienne ran into the Beast and got knocked on his arse.

The Valuev ring entrance was bizzare in itself

I think next tier down of big heavyweights would take him out too. Hasim Rahman for example should be able to waste him.

It's the first time i've seen him and it was enjoyable (in a circus type of way).

I think he'll definitely beat Ruiz. It's amazing watching him fight when you see how much bigger he is.

But Ruiz has a nasty habit of being able to negate all but the best boxers and Nikolay is very easy to hit. If Valuev can get him good shape for a change and pressure him hard throughout he has a great chance, but I don't see it as a foregone conclusion.
