I'm lazy and can't find the article :P Why has he been stripped of the British title after losing in a Commonwealth title challenge?

And surely, its double standards if Graham Earl was allowed to keep his belt particularly as he lost it to a British fighter.

Not being able to defend it in a certain time because he was stopped.



How is he, anyone know?

Only saw this yesterday on my return from the US.

He really did look shocking and I can only assume that something was wrong.

while I hope he is OK medically, part of me did feel a certain schadenfreude in his defeat particularly following the gift versus Vincent and the temper tantrums last time out

Was watching Million Dollar Baby on the plane on the way home and Morgan Freeman described a gym bully as having " all the skills but the heart of a split pea"

Thought of that as I watched the Barnes fight.

He was due to fight a mandatory defence against Vincent, he is now suspended for 45 days following the stoppage. He was stripped because he is unable to make the mandatory defence.

OK, does that mean Vincent versus XX are guaranteed to fight for the vacant title?

Yes Jennings and Vincent will now fight for the Vacant title

I (like many many others no doubt) hope Vincent can take this chance. Hopefully he can reclaim the form from the first Barnes fight which was an exception performance for him.

Earl lost on points and therefore wasn't suspended.

Stoppage means he's banned from sparring dun't it. 60 days or something?
Therefore, he's Ineligable for the defense.
Not a matter of who was 'humiliated', but that he is unable to make a mandatory defence.

A stoppage or KO means he is automatically for 28 days, Barnes was upped to 45 days by the ringside doctor.

Therefore he can not fulfil his mandatory with Vincent.

Here is the ruling from the BBBoC rulebook.

22.12 - A Champion shall forfeit his title in the following circumstances

(e) If a Champion is for any reason unable or unwilling to defend his title when required by the Board to do so.

This is all from the latest releases by the Commonwealth committee Kev? Did they say anything about the vacant Heavyweight title, or are they going to wait for Skelton/Williams?

This is the latest release from the British Boxing Board of Control, nothing about the Heavyweight title, I thought Skelton/Williams was also for the Commonwealth title or did they not sanction it?

It all passed me by too this one. Apparently those clever aussies stripped Skelton as soon as he fought Moli for the WBU. I saw a pool of about 9 or 10 who were in line to fight for the now vacant title ie. any two. Skelton and Williams were in there (so I don't know why they won't be fighting for it) as was Sprott.

A bit of bad luck for Vincent, Jennings is a much tougher prospect than Barnes. Always thought he was the better fighter.

I wanted to see Jennings fight for the Commonwealth belt cause that fighter is well beatable - perhaps Jennings' other stable mate Tony Doherty can go that route.
