Povetkin Signs With Sauerland

German promoter Wilfried Saurland has signed Olympic Games super-heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin to an exclusive promotional contract.
Other promoters Don King and allegedly were rumoured to be in the mix to sign the talented Russian but Povetkin decided in the end to join fellow countryman Nicolai Valuev at Saurland Promotions.
The 25 year-old 2004 Athens Games Gold medallist will make his professional debut against a selected opponent in Kempton, Germany on Saturday (June 11).

You know I was quite looking forward to seeing Povetkin on Sports Network shows. Despite a certain former Olympic champion's reticence to move his career along I am still keenly interested to see a Gold medallist heavyweight develop his career in the UK. If you look at the form-book of big guy successes at the Olympic Games they generally work out pretty good. There is always the chance of him being another Georgi Kandelaki of course
but Georgi-Porgi was a Worlds gold medallist and they sometimes seem to be a talent bracket below the Olympic Gold winners.

I was thinking just about heavyweights and Worlds gold medallists like Kandelaki and Sinan Samil Sam - not the most skillful individuals. Kostya was an excellent amateur I believe.

Just info.
And while we are at the Sauerland card, Vidoz has just floored Hoffmann in round 6. Vidoz probably leads by a couple of points at the moment.
