Looks like Tapia is making the attempt to become a four weight world champion.

Sounds like he will be fighting Israel Vasquez for the IBF Super Bantam title. Probably a good move, although the Tapia cynics (and there are alot) will be having a field day saying he is going for an easy option.

It could be shown in the UK as it is on ESPN 2.

Is this a fight too far for Tapia? Can he join an elite list of fighters as a four weight world champ?

"Yes" and "Yes" I reckon. He can still be successful at sub-world level, but his days in the genuine top flight are over.

What weight would you like to see him fight at, Hesketh? Do you think the move down is a mistake at his age. I know he is not a huge Feather but he always looks bigger than Barrera.

Well I guess the lightest weight he can comfortably make, but it seems hard to believe he can make super-bantam as easily as feather at 38. The problem was he wasn't much of a puncher at feather, and probably feels he can bring more to the table at the lighter weight. He was pretty light for most of his career, but at age 38 who knows what his body can do? He's a remarkable guy who wins fights on sheer activity and heart, but as I said not at the very top level any more.

Part of the reason Tapia had to move up was poor conditioning, he's not exactly looked after himself outside the ring, and these days he looks a bit like the Shaun Ryder of boxing.

Tapia has has very little left from what I've seen of his last two fights, he's cagery enough to hang with most people, but he's not got the stamina any more to win. Barrera blatantly carried him in their fight, and Medina jabbed his head off all night in a terrible fight.

Tapia is just boxing for the want of anything else better to do, buit he's a name who can earn decent money fighting at home, so I guess as long as he's not getting hurt, who can blame him?

well its definately on, 29 / 7 / 05 at Tapia's home town of Albuquerque.

Its definately on ESPN 2's Friday Night fights.

I heard it was on Telefutura.

In Tapia's last fight, Archuleta rocked him in the 1st round, and at the end of the fight Tapia looked bruised and battered. even though he won.

Vasquez wins by kayo 6 in my opinion.

Tapia should not be in this fight.
