Very complimentary - here are some post from some guys who I respect on another forum.

he was sharp as a tack....spoke perfectly....knew his sh-t.....he`s an excellent analyst......a fine sense of humor....

i always liked the guy....but i was even more impressed than i expected to be.....

if showtime was smart,they`d fire al bernstein immediately and hire mcguigan.....

a really impressive guy....hard not to like....

i was wondering about the h.o.f. thing with him...but after catching the show,i was just happy for the guy....

Here is a response to that post.

I really enjoyed Barry- he was good all around. Too bad we were disgraced with Carlos Navarro that night. But what's wrong with Bernstein- he seems real knowledgeable and good guy- I've typically liked his broadcasts. He does a show on ESPN radio in Vegas and seems to be on point.

A lot of people don't lie McGuigan, but personally I think he's an absolutely class act, he really knows his shit, and he's articulate, affable, funny and opinionated, perfect combination for me.

I also like Jim Watt, he's not as eloquent as McGuigan, but his voice is great for conveying drama.....he was excellent for the Hearns Hagler fight.

I like them both, probably prefer Watt but both are great.

I liked Gill Clancy (is he in the HoF yet?) and Teddy Atlas is probably the best around his performance in the Augustus vs Burton fight was brilliant. Even better than Smith's when interviewing allegedly.

Teddy Atlas gets on my fornicating nerves, he's a fornicating bore. He makes an observation early in a fight and then just hammers his point home over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

I reckon you're definitely in the minority there James. Atlas is leagues above anyone else.

McGuigan is alright but he does get it wrong quite often. Like when he claimed De La Hoya had "no desire" to beat Mosley in the first fight. Absolute bollocks he did everything he could.

I prefer to think of it as a majority of one.


mcguigan is pretty obstinate it must be said, once he gets an idea in his head, that's it.

I find that a problem with Watt. Often he's right but he does like calling soemthing early and repeatedly shouting about it to the detriment of other comment.

Nobody is as bad as Howard Cosell.

I actually thought McGuigan was disgraceful in the studio the night Nigel Benn lost to Steve Collins for the second time. Nicky Piper was trying to explain that he could understand why the fans felt a little cheated by the corner retirement after all the promises they'd had from Team Benn beforehand. McGuigan responds with something like "Would you rather have seen Benn flat on the canvas bleeding and crippled?" I mean what a shit thing to say to someone like Piper live on tv, who didn't even get a chance to respond because they cut away to another analyst somewhere.

That was cuntish behaviour.

Maybe the fact that Barry killed someone in the ring makes him a bit sensitive at times like that....

And i think Watt is usually on the money.. See the recent Hatton vs Tszyu fight as an example.

Watt is the worst at making a point and repeating it over and over. He also seems to take one fighters side and completely lambast the other guy throughout the fight.

McGuigan as a colour commentator alongside Darke has to be worth trying.

I think McGuigan is one of our best, i hope Jonny Nelson has a lengthy spot too as i always like listening to his views

No its not really Nick, he was poor on pro box.

Watt does sometimes repeat himself, but he is not often wrong so I don't see the problem.

Watt is the man.

McGuigan talks good about fighters he likes.

Jim Watt is more realistic...
