I'm fairly new to this site having posted mainly on DHB in the past and as a further confession I consider myself to be a boxing fan rather than an expert but as I make all the films on http://www.frankmaloney.com (including the film where Steve Lillis said you all have degrees in pugulistic history on here) I hope I'm welcome.

When I started filming for the Maloneys I filmed Glynn Evans interviewing Peter Buckley in March, before his bout with debutant Paul Buckley. Although the interview was only a clip in a longer film it generated plenty of comment. Glynn described Peter as a legend in the sport and I later suggested that the Nobby Nobs gym was the backbone of boxing in Britain. An opinion I still have. When I next see Frank I'll ask if it's ok to put the interview on his site.

Buckley is a legend in my book too.

I would never want to sour any of Buckley's wins, losses or draws but I have to wonder what the weights were for his fight with Hughes, who is a Superbantam after all.

All you have to do is ask, my friend. Buckley was 10st 2 1/2lbs, Hughes 9st 8 1/4lbs.

if buckley decided to be a winner, how far do you all rekon he could go ?

Thanks Ian"Mr Boxing"McNeilly. The weights explain why Hughes struggled. But that's not trying to take anything away from Buckley who has been in far tougher situations.

When Buckley was a Bantam/Superbantam I'd say if dedicated himself completely, he could certainly have featured in British title eliminators and maybe more. He did win a Midlands Area title I believe.

I know this could be a touchy opinion, but do you think Nobby Nobbs should come under some criticism for not installing the motivation. I know its time constraints etc, but Howard Clarke turned from a decent British title level operator (whilst working a full time job) to the journeyman he is now.

I wouldn't criticise Nobbs personally. My guess is Clarke has made a lot more money taking the route he chose, rather than solid professional he used to be.
