I was just in the process of reading an article entitled "Owen Moran: The Greatest Fighter Britain Ever Produced" I am wondering if that is true, and if not where does he fit in?

Moran was very good and in my opinion one of the best British fighters ever. I haven't done a lot of research on him, but what I have puts him in a very good light in my opinion and I would certainly like to do a lot more research on his career!

The article I was reading wasn't much. Apparently he had lots of 'boxing booth' bouts , fought Abe Attell five times.(two draws, three no decisions), Knocked out Battling Nelson, drank a ton, lost a close one to Packy McFarland, got KO'd by Wolgast in 13, and went to the grave saying he had been fouled. I didn't cut all that much by paraphrasing.

Owen Moran is a borderline great fighter, but he gets hyped more because of his constant motion style. I remember in a video once where Tyson said he loved watching the smaller British fighters and he specifically mentioned Owen Moran and Ted Kid Lewis. Moran was constant motion, and he threw punches from all angles and at all times. Two of those bouts with Attell were for the title, and although both were judged draws, one wonders if a nationalistic bias for Attell prevented him from losing the decision to Moran. If Moran had actually beaten Attell, it would have been a defining victory for him and he might have had an even better career.
Jim Driscoll was a better fighter than Moran, and Ted Kid Lewis would also rate higher than Moran IMO.
