Pancho Villa was scheduled to fight a certain boxer on July 17, 1925, but died suddenly from blood poisoning only days before. Can anyone guess who that scheduled opponent was? One guess per person per day, please. (I just uncovered this fact this afternoon while doing research at a local library.)

Vic Foley indeed! Villa and Canadian Bantam Champ Foley had agreed to meet in Vancouver, BC, for 10 rounds at 118 pounds for some kind of title the newspaper did not quite make clear. Canadian Bantam Title? (Mike DeLisa informed me that it was not unusual in those days for foreigners for fight for a title like this.) Pacific Coast Title? Foley was training hard for his big bout scheduled for July 17. He had to make do with another fighter instead, after Villa died suddenly. (I'll enter that bout with a comment once I get to that stack of newspaper printouts, which currently are at home. I'm at the office now.) Well done, TC. Ric

Based on my newspaper research, I finally got around to adding a comment to Villa's final bout that some of you may find interesting:

Robin? At some point, when you have the time, and since you live in the area, could you check a Vancouver or other BC newspaper to confirm what title Villa & Foley were scheduled to fight for? Thanks.

Will check that next month Ric. Found a bout for Tod Morgan vs. Danny Nunes, number of rounds in decision weren't given and there is
a bout in his record against a Danny Munce.
Same guy? Not much info on it.
