One thing that confuses me is why people would suggest that Lewis's career-defining win was over Tyson since Tyson was way past his prime by the time they fought and had already been crushed by Douglas and Holyfield. Does anyone know why Lewis or other people would consider his pummeling of Tyson to be a defining fight of his career?

True, Tyson was past his prime, but at that time no one knew just how past he was. Many people truly beleived he would win the fight (me included) after all, Tyson hit harder than Rahman and McCall...

In my opinion, Lewis really grew up that night. During many of his big fights he would become very nervous (and needed a few round to get into the fight. Remember how he literally was shaking during the stare-down with Ruddock a few years earlier? Plus, he seemed very timid to engage in a give and take fight with the much smaller Holyfield. However, during Tyson, he was completly focused and controled the entire fight.

During that night, Lewis wlaked into the ring with the belt, but after the fight truly was seen as the champion.

People also forget that Lewis was past his 'prime' too...Tyson was actually a year younger...
