Louis would have beaten the lot.
I agree his toughest fight would have been against Holmes.

Louis is a great, no doubt about that... I'd say if he's not in your top 3 at HW then you don't know boxing.
BUT he was susceptible to getting knocked down, and often by some average fighters. Now I know he always got back up (except the marciano fight) to exact revenge but I've often thought that if say Dempsey or Foreman were to knock him down they'd unleash an onslaught on him that, even if he survived, would seriously put him in trouble.
Whilst I'd favour Joe over most of the fighters listed I think he's more likely to be upset by a big puncher (they'd have to be a great finisher too) than most of the other greats. Of the fighters listed I'd pick him over all but Ali (and that would be a very close fight). Holmes would test him and the others all have a chance. I think Louis-Dempsey would have been a great fight, though I'd pick Louis. Although I think Louis is a greater fighter, I think Tunney could do what Conn very nearly did and beat Joe.

When Louis went down he got pissed and got up and beat the hell out of the other guy.
So Foreman, Dempsey, and Marciano would be in for it.
Ali and Holmes however would be trying to box with a boxing textbook.
All of that wrong stuff that Ali did would've caught up to him and Louis would've taken advantage of that and probably knocked him out.
Holmes would probably lose in a boring UD.

Ezzard stole my thunder on Tunnet :) Louis had such perfect punching technique and could get you with any punch.

i beleive he most likely coulda beaten anyone at his prime...except for the greatest...mohammed ali...and the louis-marciano fight doesnt count because it was never fair, even marciano came to louis' lockerroom after the fight, with tears in his eyes apologizing profusely...knowing that marciano's hero was joe louis, i think that it might have inspired him to fight him, maybe marciano could have beaten the real joe louis the prime joe louis..but then again louis' form was perfect and he was a spectacular fighter..id have him beating any heavyweight ever, except for ali...and maybe not marciano...louis was just that good...even ask my boy braddock who got knocked out COLD by louis..

you dont win the heavyweight title with one good fight..... he had dozens of great fights as a light heavyweight..unfortunatly lost to loughran who was another great fighter... beat art lasky, john henry lewis, and MAX BAER... then beat a tought tommy farr ( who beat both baer and loughran, and who was a common contender/holder of heavyweight and lightheavyweight belts at the time) Just because "cinderella man" focused on one fight doesnt mean it was his only good one... how about his knock out of tuffy griffith.. a top 60 heavyweight of all time.. (74-13) who was at his prime when braddock knocked him out in the second round ..(tuffy was 39-0 at the time) .. he lost to joe louis, but did knock him down, and did hold his own for most of the fight... ive been researching braddock for 4 years now, just because u dont know alot about him and just because you think he was just put into the ring with max baer without any competition and won a fluke, does not make me an idiot..

I never called you an idiot...but Braddock was not a great fighter at all, Louis knocking him out wasn't like a great accomplishment for Louis or anything just another guy that Louis turned into his bitch.

braddock got lucky to get louis off balance and dump him on the seat fo his pants for a two count. louis was beating him in the corner to when he got in the right uppercut and dropped louis.
louis also easily outboxed him and could have put him away in the 6th or 7th. entering the 8th blackburn told him get him now and louis went out and knocked him out cold. COLD. '
braddock will never be considered a top 10 heavyweight. he will most be remembered for being the cinderella man and serving as a true inspiration for people

your right..and im not trying to make him into a top 10.. id put him in top 25, he is in every boxing hall of fame possible, but anyway i love braddock because he was the underdog, and because he was an american hero, he was a huge inspiration to everyone, especially to my grandpa who suffered in the depression, and lived down the street from braddock, part of the reason why ive been hearing stories of him since i was 5, and probly the reason i overdue it sometimes on this board
