WBC orders Peter/Sam box-off!

Promoter Dino Duva is happy to announce the WBC has ordered a box-off between its highest available contenders, #4 Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter, 24-0 (21), and #3 Sinan Samil Sam, 24-2 (15).

“We’re happy about the WBC’s decision,” explained Duva. “I want to make Samuel Peter the number one contender in as many organizations as possible. None of the champions will want to fight him voluntarily, so we’ll have to put him in a position where they’ll be mandated to.”

Duva says that while Samil Sam is no walk in the park, a victory over him will be the first in what he hopes is a series of elimination bouts. “I think Sinan Samil Sam is a tough guy, probably the toughest opponent yet for Samuel, as far as ability and credibility, but our goal is to prove Samuel Peter is number one across the board and force showdowns with the champions. Samuel is in a position in the IBF and WBO ratings where we might be able to have box-offs for their number one contendership as well, one after the other. I’ll try to make it happen.”

Duva says that fighting for the top spot in all the organizations should silence those who say Samuel Peter has had an easy ride to the top. “People say he’s fighting easy opponents, even Showtime said that they would love to have Sam back, but he’s got to fight someone tougher. What they are all going to realize after some time is that Sam is making them look easy. These are decent fighters he’s facing, but he’s making them look like nothing because he’s walking right through them. It’ll take some people a while to realize he’s something special, but over time it will happen.”

Duva says he is currently in negotiations with Samil Sam’s promoter, Wilfried Sauerland. “We’re looking forward to fighting Sinan Samil Sam in the fall for the number one position in the WBC and we’re very excited and thankful to them for recognizing Samuel. It’s a tough fight, but Samuel wants to prove to everyone that he’s number one.”

Sinan is too tough for Peter. He will school Peter like Luan Krasniqi schooled Whitaker. Peters chin is IMO untested. Sam has a chin and a heart of a bull. I would go for KO victory of Sinan.

I'd probably agree with you about Sam in general Bubi, but what happened in the Okhello fight - was that his first knockdown?

he was not that motivated. he has some disputes with his trainer and the promoter. IMO that plays a role. regarding the rumours Sam is even negotiating with Don King.....

Sam and his manager, Ahmet Öner, are also pissed that Sauerland did not ask Sam to replace Sprott for the EBU title. Sam is #1 at the EBU.......

Sam's leaky defense and lack of speed would be an open invitation for Peter who I think would win early.

Peter is overrated, (new Foreman my arse) but Sam isn't that good?


What is the deciding factor?

Not a bad dust-up, if you ask me. Two contenders fighting each other, which is a novelty for the heavyweights these days, I suppose. I'm not sold on Peter yet. Mind you, I'm not sold on Sam, either. An intriguing contest.

This whole thing is becoming a farce now.

Fightnews is reporting that the WBC will allow Klitchko to first have an 'optional' fight against Brock in Septermber.

So Klitchko has Brock, Rachman/Barret, Sam/Peter in God nows what amount of time. No Winter break to Lapland for him anyway.

This is an interesting match up.

Sam is better than he looks - good chin, deceptively swift hands, good experience.
Peter is worse than he looks - Inflated respect due to the exciting KO's.

When they meet in the middle it will be interesting to see who's got the advantage.

I've only seen Peter twice but unless he's improved i'd lean towards Sam by UD if there are still ?'s over Peter's stamina?
Judging by the fact he got a wide UD over Shufford though maybe not.

Pick 'em then.

BTW i'm sure that Gomez dropped Sam with an uppercut on the way in. Was that flash KD not scored?

I think Sam-Okhello is on Eurosport tonight (Thursday 14th) as for Whitaker-Krasniqi i wouldn't say Krasniqi schooled him, Whitaker was competetive and landed some solid body shots throughout, granted Krasniqi landed a good shot to finish things but i don't think Whitaker was "schooled" at all, it was hardly a masterclass.

You are right. the WBC is working hard to lose its position as the most important organisation.......

Shirow's views on this match up are spot on. I'd probably lean slightly towards Peter who's the man on a roll.

I also didn't think Krasniqi looked that impressive against Whitaker. He threw a few nice right hands but he seemed to make it a lot more difficult than it needed to be.

Before the Eliminator was anounced, Whitaker was together with Rahman and Barrett the best ranked contender in all sanctioning bodies. When the Eliminator was anounced he was only ranked at the WBO as #1. Whitaker was never floored and has a very good KO percentage and he is american. most people thought he would knock Luan out. Nobody expected a performance Luan showed. Did you see a better Heavyweight this year? And don´t tell me that Golota is better than Whitaker.....

I just read on Sams Homepage that there are negotiations between Team SSS and Team Peter for the WBC "Eliminator after the Eliminator". It seems that the fight will take place in the USA.

I do agree with Mike here, we need to cast our minds back to b4 the fight had happened, it was very mixed views as to the outcome, krasniq points or whitaker ko, one thing that certainly wasnt predicted was a Luan KO.


So you have to be impressed with LK's performance as he got the man out of there when no one thought he would.


hindsight is a wonderful thing but can sometimes cloud what our initial views were.

Personally I've never rated Whitaker, even if the sanctioning bodies did. In the words of Jim Watt - "Where's the devil?"

Peter would destroy the overrated Sam. Mind you, Sam was down in the Gomez fight. He is also smaller then Peter and has less power.

Peter should learn to fight big heavyweights, because he will end up fighting Vitali or Valuev. He should ho for Jameel now.
