The end for Howard Eastman?

Talk about deja-vu... I found myself in the same place, in front of the same TV, pulling the same hair, mouthing the same criticisms of Howard Eastman as I did four years ago, in Nov. 2001.

Eastman looked good in the first rounds they showed. Jabbed his way in and kept Abraham tight, and thus not throwing/getting outworked. Then he seems to get too laid back with the situation, forgets to jab, walks forward and waits for Abraham to punch first. I shouted at this point "keep jabbing you fornicating idiot or you're about to get clocked."

Weeeee. A big right hand bounces of his chin as he steps forward.

"groan"

Then it was back to the same old Eastman, probably even worse. Walks forward, ducks a few, catches a few here and there but takes them. Doesn't land anything in return. Gets outworked. Not throwing enough. It's all too predictable. Yawn...

Hold on, Abraham is blowing hard! Oh, there he just threw four bombs... Wow, this guy obviously likes to rest between his bursts - look at the way he drops his hands, turns his back and walks when he wants a rest. Make him pay Howard!! Howard?! Howard?! Where are you? Oh, there you are plodding forward at a snails pace at the opposite side of the ring.

F*ck off Eastman.

I couldn't agree more really, Howard only has himself to blame for the losses to Joppy and Abraham. Still it doesn't really matter, no doubt Howard has already assured himself of a place in the IBHOF of his own mind, which is where he seems to win all these fights that others felt he lost.

No maybe people will finally realise he DOESN'T have this extra gear.

He started off well last night but ran out of steam. He fights at a slow/low pace to conserve energy cause he doesn't have great stamina.

If he wants to continue at world level, it has to be at Super Middleweight now.

Calzaghe vs Eastmann is surely more doable now with MH not tied to a TV company.

He's the middleweight Audley you love to hate!

As for calzaghe/eastman, seriously, what on earth would be the point?

You guys are out of order.... Howard is a gutsy and complex guy.... He has not had it easy

No point really, but the ONLY viable option for Eastman. It would seriously be only a mark time fight for Calzaghe (i.e. while waiting for Lacy or someone else).

Or he could retire. Let's be honest, he has no future at true world level at any weight. He will always be outworked by the better fighters, in fact he just got outworked by maybe a fairly average fighter.

And a far too dangerous one at that!

He should retire, unless he wants to mill around the European scene for some pay days he may as well give up on world class as he on the slide. I agree with Stu's point, i said the same thing on another topic, he just doesn't possess that extra gear we all need from him. He does not have the urgency when it is required.

Eastman brings the well worn 'never been stopped' tag, so might well be able to provide the sort of defining challenge that Calzaghe craves.

agree wioth all thats been posted above, Howard just is so pjne paced and that is slow its unbelivable. he dominated Abraham for 4 rounds then steps off the gas and coasts, AB comes back into it an the momentum and the fight is lost.

They should change howards middle name to frustrating.

If he hangs around he will just be a punch bag for prospects who need some good rounds under their belt against an experienced but limited veteran with a good chin. The thing with Eastman is that he honestly believes he is robbed all the time. I thought he lost but how did he expect to go to Germany and fight an unbeaten prospect and win a close decision? Not a chance. The only men robbed on Saturday night were Hopkins and Magee.

i agree John his bizarre ramblings at the end of the fight just pointed to a man in denial.

though the hopklins fight was close but nodded off for a round or two in the middle so cant really comment with conviction, and magee wopn on my card but ive seen worse.

Eastman is delusional, even now after three fights where he has virtually sleptwalk to defeat he blames everyone but himself. He seems to think he deserves to win on minimal effort.

Just compare Hopkins late rally as a comparison of the difference between a champion and an also-ran.

I think it´s a little paranoia. Eastman and his coach pretended that it was a win with 3 rounds in front and that he was also robbed vs Joppy and Hopkins. But he showed the same passivity as in the Hopkins fight. It´s not possible to win with this tactic when there is another fighter who does and scores more.

I had had Magee in front with too rounds but the fight was too close to call it a robbery.

i had it the same Bubi but then again if that wasnt a robbery then niether was sturm de la hoya cos that exactly the same score i had for that fight.

you could make an argument for the draw but you cant make an argument for tsypko and de la hoya winning imo.

therefore a bad decision it was in my book but ive seen worse as i say.

I think DLTK won maximum 5 rounds, I had 8 rounds for Felix.....

I scored 5 rounds for Tsypko and Magee was definetely the man who did more but there were some close rounds I gave to Magee. So some judge favoured Tsypko in the close rounds. so i would not say it was a robbery. even the guy from Northern Ireland wasn´t saying that. THe fight was close. Closer than the Sturm-fight

I think a while back it was Riddick Bowe who labelled Eastman the Ben Tackie of the Middleweight division...it seems a pretty apt assessment now :TU:

Hmm, you guys couldn't be the same ones that were saying that Eastman is a younger, hungrier version of Hopkins back in winter, could you? :)

Certainly wasn't me who said that. He'll retire with a career best victory over a fading Robert Mcracken.

Some CV!

Not sure about that!

He also beat Sam Solimon, the next Middleweight World Champion for sure!

Yes, when Soliman was taking fights at 10 days notice or whatever. Would like to have seen the result of that fight when Soliman had a proper amount of time to prepare.
