Earnie Shavers vs Lamon Brewster. What If?

If the huge power puncher Earmie Shavers was around today in his prime and challanged current WBO Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster what do you think would be the outcome?

Both these fighters are somewhat irratic, both can be hurt but both can also punch with authority.

Shavers fought much better opposition which leans me towards a Shavers KO win inside 5 rounds.

But Earnie's chin was not the most reliable so there are no sure things in his fights.

But what do you think fight fans? :box:

Hmm, another bizarrely intriguing chin-stroker. I think I might lean towards Brewster based on his recent efforts and his display of heart against Wladi Klitschko. Shavers could take out anyone I suppose, but against guys with real toughness and the ability to take a few big shots then it was Earnie's vulnerability that sometimes became the deciding factor.

I agree withe vampire. I think Brewster weathers the storm then knocks Shavers out.

Remember, this is a PEAK Shavers . . . not the guy who chased Holmes around the ring in the 2nd fight or looked awfully sluggish against Tex Cobb.

This is the guy who iced Ellis, Young, and gave Lyle a HELLUVA fight (if you haven't seen the latter you need to see it to see how dangerous Shavers was)

Shavers would outwork and outpunch Brewster, plus have the faster hands.

Shavers KO 4. A guy who lost to Ettiene??? . . .I can't believe some think Brewster will win. Shavers could fade down the stretch but he was a calibre above Wladimir Klitschko.

Shavers TKO 2

Remember, Lamon' s best outing is his most recent victory over a 36 year old Golota. He barely etched out a decision over Kali Meehan and dropped decisions to Shufford and Etienne. Shavers, as dempseyfire said, is better in every way. Brewster seems to have a strong chin, but I don't think and can withstand Shavers for too long.

Shavers survives a is brief explosion in the first to destroy Brewster in the 2nd.

yeah but shavers iced a way past his prime and old jimmy ellis, and then he took out a very inexpereinced and young jimmy young. when young fought him again when he wa more experienced, he fought earnie too a draw.

id say who ever hits first wins, ill go with shavers by knockout.

Shavers hit like wholy hell, but he could punch himself out, and he has a chin that was nothing to be envious about.

It is possible that Brewster takes Shavers' assault early and comes back to stagger Shavers.

Brewster might run out of rounds though, he does get lazy.

BTW I think Brewster is A LOT better than when SHufford and Ettienne decisioned him. He is thicker, and upped his game. Looking back it seems like a miracle he never took Ettiene out at some time in the fight.

Brewster is still young too, and may still prove himself further. He surprised us with the Golota fight, and may do so with a couple more before he is done. So any fantasy match ups with him can be outdated and change quick.

ALSO...lets remember Brewster said he was friends with Kali, and didn't have it to jump on him like he did Golota. He perfered to try to box to a decision. Well with a guy as tall as that and that kind of reach, it was a bad move.

Brewster may prove to be not as good as he looked against Golota, but he may also not be as bad as he looked against Kali.

How has Brewster shown he's a lot better?

By getting plastered by Wlad before outlasting the behemoth (kudos to his heart and courage but notso his boxing skills)

By losing to Meehan (friends is a piss-poor excuse)

Or by Koing a 37 yr old man in under a minute who has a history of choking against punchers???

I don't see it. He only got his shot vs Klitschko via Don King.

If a tiring Wlad could dump Brewster on his ass, you can bet Shavers would put him down for the count.

Let's talk about who really won the fight with Meehan.

How has he gotten better?

Well, In my opinion neither Shufford nor Ettienne would be able to beat Brewster if they fought again. That is what I mean't.

You still think Shufford and Ettienne would beat Brewster? If so then we are not on the same page.

If Meehan could outpoint him, I'd give Shufford a fair chance to beat Lamon again . . .
