allegedly

He got a lot of flak for having his fighters only fight bums. But since putting Danny Williams in with Tyson and Klit. Now Arthur won the European title, and Ricky Hatton beat Kosta, does this mean some people have been underestimating the man? Or is he still the poor promoter some of us thought before?

Why has it added allegedly to this title? I didn't put it on? Has allegedly had a law suit against the website or something?

Yep, Warren threw a hissy fit when he found out people on here were saying derogatory things about him I think, back in the days when people thought Hatton would never fight anyone with half a pulse.

Warren is a product of the British boxing scene. There really isn't that much talent in comparison to the States where not only the best Americans are available to promote but Mexicans, Puerto-Ricans, Africans, etc. A British promoter only ever has a few golden geese at a time, and hence they are somewhat "prudent" with those geese for financial reasons. I'm sure if Warren had more talent to play with, he'd be keener to risk them in 50/50 fights a lot sooner, but he's in it for the money, not the love of the sport. All the other promoters do the same, Warren just happens to the biggest and best at it. Interestingly very few of his boxers ever leave him, so he must be doing something right for them.

Had a great year. Williams vs Tyson, Williams vs Klitchsko, Amir Khan, Hatton vs Tszyu, Harrison vs Brodie. Really been on the ball this year.

Interesting to see how things develops now he has the Saturday night slots he craved.

I should think he has had to come up with competitive fights in order to get a deal with ITV...... lets not get carried away though these are only the sort of fights that we should be expecting... I just hope Arthur doesn't end up fighting for a vacant wbu world title against TBA!!!.... :box: :TU:

Says it all really, doesn't it? I say something positive about allegedly and the site automatically says it is only alleged.

I think the fact that there were rival promoters around had something to do with it, Hennassy and Fight Acadamy et al were putting some good matches together.

I think it is a shame that he seems retecent to take his fighters over seas though. It was interesting to hear what Artheres opponent said about fighting in Europe making it difficult to get shots on a world stage.

He had one of his tantrums in the NOTW column today because some paper questioned David Bailey as Amir khans opponent.

He compared Amir Khan to Ray Leonard, Lennox Lewis, Muhammed Ali and Oscar De La Hoya with the choice of their first opponents.

Heres what I noticed about their first opponents.

Al Malcolm was having his 25th fight when he fought Lennox, he had been 6yrs a pro and had won 11 of his fights,1 draw, and he had always fought at the weight....Lennox went on to win european belt in 14th fight.

Lamar Williams fought Oscar De La Hoya in his 8th fight-, he`d been 4yrs a pro and had won 5 of his fights, 1 draw, and always fought at the weight the fight was made...Oscar wins world title in 12th fight.

Tunney Hunsaker fought Muhammed Ali in his 24th fight after 9yrs a pro,he had won 13 of his fights, 1no contest and always fought at the weight....Ali wins world undisputed title in 20th fight.

Luis vega fought Ray Leonard in his 22nd fight, he had only been a pro3yrs and had won 8 of his fights, and drew 2, he fought maybe a division below...but Ray leonard goes on to win the world title in 26th fight against a truly excellent world champ.

David Bailey fought Amir Khan in his 8th fight after only 1 yr as a pro, he had won 3 of his fights,he had never fought as heavy and be interesting to see what he weighs in his next fight.

Yep, Bailey looked like a featherweight to me... :x

The most interesting part of his column this week was when he mentioned Calzaghe has been a "world" champion for 8 years now and that is one of if not the longest reign. He always mentioned he doesn't particularly rate Hopkins either.

Yeh I read that too, I dont know why I read his columns, every week he says somethign that gets on my tits lol. Im guess he's talking about longest reign at supermiddle weight?

Since B-Hop reigned for 10 years and Holmes about 8 and Louis reigned for bout 11 too I think :-?

Except, Holmes, and Hopkins became the recognized champ early in their reigns, and Calzaghe never was, and never will be.

Damn, even when you type his name into the full site, it puts alleged by it. I hadn't noticed that, what a crock of shit.

I came on this site to portray Warren in a positive light, now my opinion of him has dropped substantially because of this.

Didn't there used to be a forum on this site, just to talk about allegedly?

In the last year Warren has put on some good shows, and some bad ones as well. This is always going to happen, as his job is to make the most money for his boxers and for himself as well.

Unfortunatly Britain doesn't have a huge wealth of genuine world class boxers, so Warren can either throw the boxers he has in against the worlds best, that way shortening there careers, or getting some good paydays for them fighting for lesser titles.

In Hattons and Calazaghes case maybe they should have faced the best before now, the wait certainly hasn't done Hatton any harm.
Calagzaghe is sometimes his own worst enemy, he's an intelligent guy and must know fighting in your home town all the time is going to get people talking.
Warren could maybe of forced Calazaghe to fight in America before now, but also Joe could have demanded it as well, forcing Warren to put him in against the best over there.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It is the fighters place to ask his promoters for the big fights, not the other way around. Hatton made it clear he wanted big fights, and he got them. Calzaghe talked about them, all the while making excuses for why they can't happen.

The promoter's obligation is to his fighters, and it's also a risky business, promoters fund fights with their own money, and the money of the TV networks is part of the equation. You cannot blame any promoter from wanting to protect their investments in the likes of a Ricky Hatton.

A good show means that the card is so well balanced that I don“t like to leave my seat. Regarding the Hatton-Tszyu-fight I have to say that the whole undercard was fornicating bullshit and boring like hell. Nothing special. But maybe the main problem is that he has just a hand full of real good fighters under contract......

Comparing it with the Sauerland Card last week in Nuremberg I was sitting 4 hours on my as before I had the first break, a real good show. :TU:

Next time he can bring in Hatton without undercard. would be better.

I think that was also to do with the fact that Warren had to pay Tszyu a huge sum to come and defend his title in Manchester, it was his career highest payday by all accounts, though I recall the amount was never actually declared.

I think that meant having to cut costs on the rest of the show.

PPV undercards have been suffering both in the UK and the US of late. It seems to be acceptable to just go with the main event and very little else.

Do you mean getting the Chuckleski Brothers in as oppo for Williams and Maccarinelli?

agree, look at the last Tyson fights, the promotors had to pay him alot , so the undercard was shite.

Warren also had that problem with Kosta, but i still think the undercard could have had more competitive fights.
Germany do put on good all round cards, i've said that before, maybe its down to the TV companies paying more money, therefore the promotors can put bigger names on the undercard.

Bullshit Allegedly couldnt afford a decent undercard after paying for Tszyu. The fact is he could sell out the arena and countless PPV's with just the main event so put on a tatty undercard so he could pocket more money himself.

The only time there's a decent undercard on his bills is when the main event wont sell out the arena.

That undercard was shambolic.

Yes he delivered the Hatton v Tszyu fight but one swallow does not make a summer.
