Interesting combination

Over the years their have been quite a few fighters that combined great punching power with very weak chins. Oleg Masakev, Bob Satterfield, Cleveland Williams, Eugene Hart, and I think Thomas Hearns and possibly Bob Foster. What do you guys think? Who are the alltime great "can dish it out but can't take it fighters?"

Ernie Shavers' chin may not have been all that weak, but compared with his punch, he's worth considering.

Williams didn't have a great chin but it wasn't in the same category as those others.

The greatest chin-power disparity probably goes to Satterfield.

A modern example is Derrick Jefferson . . .big strong HW with the chin of a placekicker!

Benn's chin wasn't marvelous either (wobbled by the feather-fisted Galvano, dropped by a Watson's JAB, ...)

Just looked up Donovan Ruddock's record and his fights were pretty much guaranteed to end early. One way or another.

Tommy Morrison, good power, good speed and combination but a very soft chin and poor recovery.

Gerry Cooney is a good example.

How about Tiger Flowers. Every time he loses, was by KO. He had decent punching power.

Peter Maher and Wladimir Klitschko would be two more. Possibly Michael Moorer.

Look up record of former british Heavyweight Champion Reggie Meen or maybe John Mugabi they did not give the judges much to doo.

Honorary menthion for Henry Cooper.

Patterson hit harder than most people realise. Norton could possibly join this category too.

Johansson's jaw wasn't much.

Hearns having a weak chin is a misconception. The only boxers who stopped him were boxers with power. His chin doesn't match his power but it wasn't like Leonard and Hagler dropped him with one punch and Barkley was so much bigger than they.

Benn was ready to go over with exhaustion, all the jab did was help him on his way

I don't think he had a bad chin, sometimes aggressive come forward type fighters like Benn are just more likely to walk onto punches. They put themselves in the line of fire more often. More stand up, defensive or cautious fighters just don't put themselves at risk as much. When he moved up to SMW Benn wasn't so reckless and boxed more, he looked more solid and less vulnerable. Anyone who can take McClellans punches doesn't have a bad chin in my book.
