Greenberg is an accident waiting to happen. He won't get anywhere near world class in my opinion.

And knowing who Greenburg is promoted by, and who runs the secondsout website....well do you expect anything different.

The sad thing is I have always enjoyed the editorials at SecondsOut, and they have some very good writers such as Thomas Hauser on the books. But the shameless promotion of Greenberg is going beyond a joke and rubbishes their journalistic integrity. No other writers are getting even remotely excited about Greenberg, and it seems his microscopic steps up in class are only serving to expose a worrying lack of power.

some people on the current board seem to think because he's jewish he'll get fast tracked to a title fight.......

I agree I used to post on their forum a lot, but then it just disapeared one day with not one single word.

They could not even be bothered to answer my e-mails when I asked them if it was coming back. So I thought screw them and I almost never visit the site now.

I think it was taken down due to a complaint from Allegedly if I recall correctly. I think he was threatening to sue them over some of the content on the forum wasnt he?

Yes thats what I allways assumed anyway. But they could at least have given their members some sort of explanation instead of treating us like crap.

So they can shove their site as far as I am concerned.

HBO are interested in Greenberg and initial talks have taken place.

Greenberg will be with HBO in less than 2 years.

No I agree, I think that it's pretty shocking that a major national newspaper allows their sole boxing commentary to come from someone with a vested interest who basically uses it as a platform to promote his own fighters will slagging off everyone else. However as I said it's clear that it is allegedly speaking, whereas at Secondsout, it's not clear that it is being put on the agenda by the owners of the site.

Actually, to be fair, it is in the secondsout.tv section, so anyone with sense should be able to tell that it is in effect a press release.

Ahh, I see it's the piece by Bernath people are on about.

If Greenberg is so good how come he's still fighting complete stiffs? He's got 20 straight wins and the best guy he has faced is Julius Francis on a 9 fight losing streak.

but he is only 23. i dont think there is anything too untoward going on here, he is keeping busy and learning his trade, they have said now they will start to step him up, and if they are true to their word they will do so.

if they dont then yes, criticism is valid, buit i think at this point they know exactly what has been going on, he isnt saying he has beaten genuine live contenders, more learning what style suits him best and gaining experience, the guy keeps busy even if it is against below par opponents, but Valuev was hardly fighting grade A opposition in his first 20 fights was he?

However its now stated they are going to step him up, so they should do so.

There could be more to this than I know but I think a lot of the criticism above is unwarranted,
He is obviously a boxer more than brawler and this style as we know tends to have a longer shelf life, this aside from the fact that he isnt big enough as yet to be threat, as he gets older this may not be such an issue as you naturally bulk up and get bigger.

As i say, if they step him up now then i have no criticism to give, i think he has been handled cautiously but not as bad as is being made out here.

Greenburg is quick, has good balance, but I don't think he has enough power to do anything special.

Seems weird to me that we run down likable guys with good groundings, and possible bright futures, rather than the established stars who mouth off and dont back it up in the ring.

byrd stellar skills lol. As for greenberg, he's a lazy fighter, who doesn't have the tools for the highest level. HBO and ring will hype him just in time for him to lose, as usual.

i think byrd HAD excellent skills for a heavweight in terms of hand/footspeed, variety of punch, balance and ring smarts.

stellar compare to Ali NO, but compared to Vitali yes. All about context mate really.

I've got nothing against the bloke, just don't rate him is all. He doesn't seem to use any sound fundamentals, and jinks around the ring like Roy Jones, and you've got to be fornicating good to get away with that against big committed punchers.
