Hatton's trainer says no rematch

I just read that Hatton's trainer has said no to a rematch with Tszyu. I thought after the fight that Hatton said he would give him a rematch.

I don't think any other top 140 pounder will travel to England so maybe Hatton is going to travel down the same road as Calzaghe.

I don't think there is any chance of Hatton going down the road of Calzaghe, he's already proved he's more hungry by demanding he fight the likes of Kostya Tszyu the world best at the time and he beat him by stoppage. What more can be asked in that fight.

Calzaghe is a differant fighter and person. Hatton has that fire to be the best which he is now and he wants to fight the elite. I don't think for one minute he'd want to avoid Mayweather, its not his style and fighting Kostya Tszyu after fighting levels below Zoo shows he's not scared of no one.

It was very exciting that Tszyu and Hatton came off and it was a pleasure to see it live and see Tszyu in the ring as I admire him as a person and boxer, but I don't think a rematch is going to regenerate that all over again on the same level, maybe in Australia but nothing on the power of Manchester that night. Tszyu has had his day and a great one at that, hes going to the hall of fame, beat the best of his time. Let the young exciting Champion make his mark and not go over old ground. If it was a close points fight, Id warrent a rematch, but Tszyu was battered out of the fight plain and simple and it was taken away from the score cards. Hatton is a destructive fighter and there is no point in seeing Kostya take a beating again. I'd much rather see Hatton gearing up for super fights in his own era with the younger champions around today in Mayweather and Cotto etc and facing them in their back yards I can't see Hatton fearing that either.

I think theres too many fighters going on past their time and best and Tszyu I'd not like to see back for that reason. He'll never gain what he did before and I really cannot see him beating Ricky Hatton at anytime of the night in any part of the world. I think Hattons style beats Tszyu on work rate and pressure and being on top every minute. I just can't see it being any differant. Im not saying Hatton is invincible and if he can reign half as long as Kostya Tszyu he'll be doing very well.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hatton vs Tszyu II, it was a good fight and for his past success alone deserves the chance.

Thats true as well Stu, see your point. If it was to be made, it should be made asap and Tszyu has not said for sure what he wants to do. It was a good fight, but Id say Hatton wins by stoppage again. Tszyu was hurt and battered in the end and I think it would happen again.

I don't know if I (or youself either) believe him but Tszyu has said and his supporters agree that his fatigue was due to his lack of rounds and some folk expect a better Tszyu next time.

I think if they fight immediately again it will be an undoubtedly close affair (some people I have talked to had Tszyu in a close but over two point lead at the time of the stoppage). I think it was a little too close to think of it as almost a forgone conclusion for Hatton, but undoubtedly he'll start as the favourite this time.

Not to mention how close the fight was, a little closer than the official cards if I remember correctly. I actually had Tszyu a point up when he retired.
I've never sided with the "Tszyu had to fight Hatton and the ref too" opinion as they were both rough in there, but it is nonetheless true that under different circumstances that kind of action would not be allowed and I would be interested in seeing how Hatton copes if a ref won't let him maul in there.

Im sure the lack of rounds did not help, I remember in the build up Tszyu saying he was ready and he hoped Ricky was ready and no excuses.

I would of had Hatton ahead on points, from my point of view seeing it live in the MEN Arena, I could see Tszyu was being hurt very much throughout the fight. I knew from the sixth round on that Hatton would win the fight and all he had to do was not get knocked out. Hatton is due to fight this year, if the rematch was to happen I think it would have to be the 1st fight of Hatton's in 2006 or they should really move on and get on with fresh fights.

But I still stick to what I believe in Tszyu has had his day and Hatton is too young, strong and aggressive and having beat Zoo once by stoppage he'll be even more confident and I'd not want to see Tszyu beat up again.

Maybe its just me, but I'm miffed on how anyone had Tszyu ahead before the stoppage. No disrepect, this is an open forum for peoples points of views and I repect that, this is only mine. I did not think for one minute Hatton was being out pointed, we had a clear view of the ring, no comentators swinging your thoughts and in a rough fight, I seen Hatton being the winner on agressiveness, punchs landed and control of the fight.

I think the stoppage by Tszyu's corner was correct, he was not winning and the last few rounds where very heavy on him and he was entering a period of risk to himself in the fight.

If I remember correctly I gave Hatton rounds one, three, nine, ten and eleven and all the rest were Tszyu with better, cleaner punching. actually on second thought I'm pretty sure I scored a couple of evens too but I can't remember I haven't scored it since the night.
If you're going to mention that you had no commentators affecting your judgment I think it's only fair to consider you had thousands of screaming mancs cheering like mad every time Hatton did anything and that may have affected your judgment of how good a punch was or whether it landed or not as easily as Darkie and Watt babbling at me may have affected mine.
Anyway, we score what we like don't we? There were plenty of close rounds which perhaps you scored to Hatton for workrate and I and others scored to Tszyu for clean harder punching and accuracy.
I don't disagree with the corner stopping the fight because in those last few rounds Hatton was clobbering him, but it was a competitive fight for the most part, easily Hatton's toughest to date and I think Tszyu deserves a rematch if he wants one.

Thats a fair comment, well put across. No commentators in replace of thousands of screaming fans

It could of been the even rounds where people as you said went either way, there was some even, were I may of said, hmmmmm I think Hatton nicked it etc. Scoring in Boxing is something its hard to agree on in close fights and even three judges often get it in the neck.

If a Tszyu rematch was to happen, would you think it would be in a time scale of Hattons next two fights, or if it went beyond that time do you still think its worth happening, due to Zoo's age, more time out of the ring and maybe Hatton going over old ground after a certain amount of time?

Well, considering Hatton did stop him I think it's fair to say Tszyu should beat another contender first, but the clock is ticking for him so the sooner the better, within a year let's say because too long after that and it'd probably be pointless.

Good point. My views on it from a while ago on the Current Scene forum.

Interesting article this month in Boxing Monthly by Graham Houston regarding some American fans being overly critical of Hatton's "physical" style...it's a good point and worth a read.

I would like to see a rematch as Tszyu was right back in the fight before the low blow and i think that it could go either way with a neutral ref.

just spotted this thread, and I have to say this is disgusting behaviour, a close fight like that against a great champion and they refuse him a rematch.

To be honest, I am surprised Tszyu didn't insist on a rematch clause. He must have known things could go against him in Manchester.

The fight should have been much closer than the cards suggested and I think Tszyu deserves a rematch if for no other reason than he was champ for so long. However, the fact Tszyu quit doesn't help his case. Had he finished the fight on his feet, then there would be much more call for a rematch.

Tszyu may not come back anyway, I've not heard anything from the Tszyu camp about whether he will fight on or not yet. I suspect he will retire, he said he didn't have anything to prove before the Hatton fight, and I suspect that was in part why he quit, it just didn't mean enough to him to continue.

Would Tszyu still make Light Welter though since there was talks of him moving up?

Don't see why - there's no law saying that a great champ deserves an immediate rematch if he loses. Tszyu certainly wouldn't have given Hatton a look in if Ricky had lost a close one - his respone would've been the same as Ricky: Get In Line.

Tzsyu demands respect as the long serving champion who just lost a very close fight. A Hopkins/Taylor rematch not happening would have been unthinkable- even Mayweather gave a rematch to Castillo after their close one- and Castillo wasn't even the undisputed champ at lightweight. Furthermore, Jones gave a rematch to Tarver when tarver wasn't even champ!

Not least because after his dominance of the division, Tzsyu is the most worthy contender out there.

Not having a rematch leaves a bad taste, IMO, and is just typical of Warren's 'holding titles hostage' behaviour. Real fighters want to clear up unfinished business, and I thought Hatton had proved he was for real.

But those rematches you mention were down to controversial scoring, with the losers arguing they'd been ripped off by the judges - not the case with Tszyu. The guy was beaten to a stand still.

Yes, on reflection, the fact Tszyu quit, makes the case for a rematch far less compelling. Had he finished on his feet that might have been another matter, though whether he could have managed to do that is debatable.

IMO, it was still close enough to warrant a return. The rematch would see be a pick em if it was in a neutral location.

It would depend on the ref, any ref which didn't like holding much, like Cortez, would make things much harder for Ricky. Lest we forget, Ricky was eating some huge counters in the fight. If he was forced to work from the outside then he would have some problems to surmount.

Zoo deserves it without doubt,He came to manchester and he put it on the line only great champs do that.

I had Zoo ahead up till the low blow, Zoo has said at private functions the low blow knocked it out of him , he actually has a good case to argue given that the ref allowed Hatton so much leeway , never gave Zoo a knock down when it clearly was and never took a point for the most blatant low blow i've ever seen . All in all besides the fact he deserves ia rematch who else is Hatton gonna fight.

Can you see ANY champ coming to England to fight Hatton after what they seen the ref let him get away with last time.

Can you see Hatton going to the states to fight Mayweather, is he gonna fight Witter the next big one for him on english soil NO

So all in all , up till now they have said there not looking for a fight with Mayweather who is without doubt the best out there at this time , They don't want Witter even though he his highly ranked, and now they don't want to rematch Zoo .

Oh well suppose there gonna be happy to rap the belt up in cotton wool and leave it sat on Ricky's mantle peice for ever
