i havnt seen this topic shown but what if this fight had happened in the mid 1970s???
it almost did with the winner of lyle-shavers fighting big geroge. lyle won and fought a war with george.
i think geroge would have knocked out shavers. what do u guys think??

big george could take a hell of a punch...was super strong and had terrific power. okay..he had some stamina problems...but of course so did shaver..and earnie wouldn't be in there long enough to tire george out. foreman by an early kayo.

Ahh Jaclem makes a good point. I meant to say.
I agree with what the first two individuals on this thread had to say.
I share the opinion with those fine contributors that Mr Foreman would likely administer a knockout punch to his opponent Mr Shavers, sometime early in the conflict.
If there are any questions on this matter due to abiguity or lack of clarity on my part there will a question and answer period provided to those who want to stay late.
If anyone takes exception to what I have said or if anyone's feelings were hurt in the process of me expressing my opinion please consult me, as I am open minded to proper editing, updating or retracting items that people find unsettling in any manner. I will even consider retractions if your personal foibles are such that you can not deal with the content herein contained.
Thank you Jaclem for your kind assistance in this matter. I hope you find this quite succint.

George would have won easily.
Foreman had one of the great chins & a chin usually beats a puncher.
Shavers would not have been able to stand up to George's power.

I think so, too. Shavers was always one of my favorites, but I can't see him beating Foreman. Earnie was not a whole lot bigger than Frazier, and, as a fighter who certainly would have been coming forward, I just think he was made for Big George.
Foreman in a short, but very exciting fight.

i wouldnt rate foremans chin ultimately high, and in defense of shavers, we did see rony lyle floor goerge twice and practically KO him which shows its not impossible to beat him coming forward. so if earnie was to land one of his right hand bombs he could KO foreman.

thank you buzzy. if you have a seminar will a box lunch be provided?
in your post you write - "process of me expressing my opinion" when you should have written - "process of my expressing my opinion"..as expressing in this usage is a gerund and takes the possessive.
incidentally still refer to shavers as shaver, which is his real family name. he won getting himself referred to as earnie instead of the incorrect ernie, but just gave up on the last name.
when i attended a close circuit fight shown at a theatre in cleveland....ali versus somebody earnie was in the lobby signing autographed pictures. i didn't get one but watched him for a while and he was most personable fellow. however, fighters who have been hit by him have found his charm highly resistable.

No doubt about it. Unfortunately, Earnie wasn't the hardest guy to hit, if you could manage to throw without catching. And, since Foreman could obviously throw with the best, and, since he was also taller and bigger in stature, the odds would seem to be in his favor.
I believe Earnie could win with the puncher's chance he'd have against anyone, but I think Foreman would've been a pretty heavy favorite.
Foreman vs Shavers

Their fights against Ron Lyle could be seen as an indication that it might have been a competitive matchup since Shavers did manage to floor Lyle in the second round while Lyle gave Foreman a great deal of trouble before succumbing.

I actually think this is a very close fight. Foreman wasn't used to being hurt himself and was almost koed by Lyle who didn't have the power of Shavers. If Lyle could drop Foreman then Shavers could too. I really think this is a toss up fight, if Shavers got his big punches in first foreman could go. I lean towards Foreman overall but it would be a hell of a fight and certainly not an easy one for George.
