Walker gets Moore



Despite being with rival promoters, two of Britain’s most popular and entertaining boxers will meet at the GH Carnall Leisure Centre in Manchester on September 23rd on an event promoted by Matchroom Sport, in co-operation with Hennessy Sports, to be televised on Sky Sports 1.

“Because we are similar, I think this just might be fight of the year,” said Hennessy Sports promoted former ABA champion Walker.

“We are both heavy handed, very attacking, come forward fighters who put everything on the line every time we fight.

“That is why I can’t see this being anything other than explosive.”

Walker added: “There are going to be no hiding places in that ring.

“Whatever the result, neither of us will come out of this fight thinking we haven’t given it our absolute all.

“We are just not that type of fighter. We are honest pro’s who are full of desire. Both of us have shown that in the past by climbing off the canvas to win.”

Naturally Walker – heralded as Britain’s most exciting boxer for his edge of your seat displays – sees only one winner.

“I am full of respect for Moore,” he continued. “He has won the British title outright and, like I say, I see a lot of myself in him.

“But I am going to have a shock for him.”

Walker added: “I am coming to war – fully equipped.”

“I have no other option. This is the biggest fight of my life.

“I know I fought Roman Karmazin (now IBF champion) for the European title, but I wasn’t right that night and went in as a massive underdog.

“This is completely different. It is practically do or die. If I don’t win it is going to be very difficult for me to rebuild.”

Whilst he doesn’t need any, Walker will receive further motivation from the fact that he is fulfilling a long held ambition.

“It was a childhood dream of mine to box for the British title. I believe the Lonsdale belt is the most famous in boxing,” ‘Kid Dynamite’ explained.

“I can’t put into words how delighted I am that this fight has come off.

“I am going to repay the work everyone – especially my promoter Mick Hennessy and trainer Robert McCracken - have put in by winning the British title.

“I would also like to thank Matchroom Sport for working with my promoter Hennessy Sports to make this happen. It is unusual in this day and age.”

he's spot on there, his area level ability didn't quite seem 'right' to face karmazin...

anyway, KO4 moore.

Yeah, shame he had to throw that in.

He could just have said he was in against the future IBF champ and quite possibly the best in the world at his weight, no shame in losing to him etc...

Pride is one thing but don't make yourself look silly

David doesn't say it, but I think he means who was overawed by the suuport and occasion. I'm positive who wouldn't try and have you believe Karmazin wasn't the better man. Walker said he'd never felt body shots like he did against Roman. David tried his best though.

Walker's fairly comfortable with southpaws at this level and I think his style can take care of Moore....but it won't be easy. For me, Walker has to try and trap Moore on the ropes and corner posts as much as possible and then let fly.

It will be a cracker, but it will be Moore's fight pretty easily.

I expect some gritting of the teeth and some meaty exchanges by both here but ultimately Moore to hurt Walker early and stop him around 4.

So Hennessey is now on Sky? didn't he once swear by terrestrial TV and slaughter Sky? Still he has to eat I suppose. I thought he liked Walker, so why is he so hell-bent on getting him hurt, he has ruined him as a fighter and by keep slinging him in is going to ruin him as a person. He should be ashamed of himself and so should Barry Hearn and the BBBC for having anything to do with it. Hearn and Hennessey in tandem - Get the Ambulances ready lads!

Those were two horrible knockouts that Jim suffered before retiring. The one with Vice he was spark out and hit the bottom rope, then with Azumah it was one of those wearing ones were the fighter goes down in slow motion - always a sign they're likely to be leaving something in the ring. I've noticed he hunches his neck quite a bit and talks a little muffled nowadays (though still looks as fit as), does anyone know if those stoppages caused him any problems later on?
