Jackie as he was called by many, died 10 years ago today, 8/13/95. He was from Chicago and fought amateur for the CYO boxing team in the late 40's early 50's. As he once said, "I like to fight". He was trained for many bouts in the gym by former middle weight champion Tony Zale. Jack would tell stories to us fighters of Sugar Ray Robinson and how he used to pay a nickel to watch him work out before his bouts, and how smooth SRR was in the ring. Jack had an amateur record of 81-9. Tony Zale once called him "the hardest hitting bantam weight who ever lived, if only he would train harder". Jack taught many a youth the sport the boxing, and he showed you the "little things" that made the difference in the ring. He was a coach, friend, and mentor, and to this day I think of him often. He said boxing related to life, because when you were born your hands were made into little fists for the fight of life. I and many of those whose lives you touched miss you. Rest in peace Jack. :TU:
