Is it true that Hatton still hasnt signed a new deal with Sports network?

If so what other promoters are likely to be in for him and is there a realistic chance of Ricky heading across the pond for fights in the future?


Sorry if this has been done before but i only recently started posting again.

As far as i know it hasn't been resolved yet, it seems entirely likely that he will sign with Warren you have to wonder why it has not been sorted out yet.

If Arrum signs him (he hinted at this) it woudl be interesting

Yes it could be a case of "be careful what you wish for" as Hatton would be thrown in at the deep end, would he sink or swim? Time of course would tell, signing with Arum would be great for the fans because the big fights you would think would come thick and fast.

That could possibly be the making of Hatton in my opinion - just think of the big fights which can be made over in the U.S and i reckon he will thrive on the pressure the yanks put on him.

His style would also make hin a huge draw over there aswell.

Credit to Sports Network for eventually getting him a title shot though.

it would be good to c hatton fighting primetime on itv. so part of me wants him to stay with warren.

on the other hand big fights with his rivals would be easier to make if he went with arum.

it could go either way. but i think he'll stick with frank.

Exactly. I won't deny that it was a great piece of promotion to get Tszyu over here (Although it cost an awful lot of money), but it seems that Hatton forced that one. For one of the supposedly premier boxing nations, we sure have suffered some crap. In fairness, we're probably to blame: We all criticised the WBU fights, but we still watched them......

Can anyone TRULY believe that a shrewd businessman such as allegedly would get his man a title shot (which he always beleived he would win) on his last fight under contract to Sports Network, then leaving him free to take his new belt and star status to another promoter.

I see your point, but it may be a sign of over-confidence on Frank's behalf. My guess is that Warren got him the Tszyu fight as an incentive for Hatton to re-up with Sports Network and then have Ricky sit on the IBF belt (ala Warren's other cash-camel Calzaghe). I think/hope Ricky's made of sterner stuff though and will take the leap across the pond to sign with Arum where the big fights and big $ await.

Maybe Frank got him the fight thinking he would loose .... and made sure he wouldnt be worth anything to any other promoter after his contract ran out ?

If Hatton does sign with another promoter would that mean we wouldn't see his fights on ITV? i would think that all the money put by for boxing by them has been spent on the contract with Sports Network.

So if we do get Calazhge v Lacy in November and Joe losses then Mr Warren would have no big name boxers left.

I would think that Amir Khan would then be rushed a bit to get him to championship class.

Yes, I have to say, I find that extremely hard to believe.

The deal with ITV also gives more credence to Hatton signing another long term contract.

I've heard a lot of rumours about this, but I've yet to hear anything concrete.

Would rather watch Hatton on ITV than Sky box office agai, so I hope he stays with Warren.

It doesn't mean he'll sit on the belt and do what Calzaghe's doing though.

True, but at the end of the day getting a fight against the man of the division in your own back yard desrerves a little bit of credit.

That's sounds a bit out there, unless his next 3 opponent are Mayweather, Cotto and Tszyu II then i wouldn't mind so much

To be honest Steve, I wouldn't be all that surprised. I shied away from many of the post-Tsyzu threads because I had a gut feeling none of them fights would come about by the end of this year. And look what's happened: Mayweather is near to fighting Judah, Cotto is presently engaged, don't know if Tsyzu is coming or going (and that medical stuff after the fight didn't sound too good - either way he needs his long preparation time), even M'baye fell off that showcase show in Edinburgh recently.

That leaves Maussa and Witter (Gatti and Harris were both exposed by these two; Harris more than Arturo). Maussa could be a real possibility - very beatable and has a big 3 belt. Witter... no chance he's allegedly going to be given this payday.

If it's not Maussa, then you're looking around the 11-20 ranked range. I think there's a good chance his next opponent may be one of these, and maybe not even this year.

I didn't realise M'baye was in the running, that would have been a good fight, M'baye is a good operator and pushed Harris close back when Harris could last 12 rounds against quality opposition.

Yeah he was scheduled to appear on the Arthur - Sinitsin undercard back in July, but dropped off shortly before. Can only find one thread about it, which is strange because I thought it was discussed quite a bit on the board..?

Doubt hatton will be that keen on stopping fighting in manchester which is something Warren will always offer. I think there is a bit of hard ball being played thats all.

I don't doubt it mate i was probably asleep or something, my PC was broken for a few months so missed that thread perhaps. I got my first glimpse of M'baye recently against Harris and i was impressed, he was sharp, compact and very neat and tidy i am surprised he hasn't featured more at world level.

Mr. Bunce fronted a boxing show on BBC radio five live last night (Thurs 18th) and grabbed a phone interview with Mr. Warren. A snapshot of the discussion says much;

"I've done a magnificent job for Ricky outside the ring and delivered him everything I said I'd do.
I just hope everybody does the right thing."

I'm sure Mr. Warren has hoped Ricky would do the right thing for some time now but the lack of any developments suggests a move abroad.
