Marquez stripped

WBA/IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez has been stripped of his IBF belt for not defending against mandatory Fahprakorb Rakkiatgym, and seeing as he is a WBA super champ he will likely be stripped of this as well, leaving him with no belt.

Not good news for him , as i can't see anyone wanting to defend against him, as he's so dangerous.

Might work well for Niky Cook who could get in the mix for the vacant IBF title

fornicating diabolical.

He made his bed, time to sleep in it. He turned down a Pacman rematch, he then was offered 1.5 million to fight Morales but he demanded 3.5 million (a sum even Morales never made). Then doesn't show up to negioate his Top Rank deal to get them to bid on his mandatory fight.

JMM should have learned that talent doesn't = popularity.

There have purseoffers at least twice for his IBF belt, but no one ever bid the minimum $50K (great promoters you have there Marquez). It will probably also mean that Marquez and John have to fight very soon.

That's no bad thing, should be a good fight.

Qustion about habing two WBA champs. Say if someone like Scott Harrison was to fight the normal WBA and not there already unified/super champ would it be a unification match too? :-?

Also say if chris john won the WBC championhship say marquez was never stripped does that mean he becomes a WBA superchamp and would that mean there could be 3 WBA champions in one divison  what if scott harrison beat the 3rd WBA champion, would that mean he is a Wba Superchamption does that we could have 4 WBA champions in one weight divison

It is diabolical, but does it matter.

We all know Marquez is the best at 126. He doesnt need some corrupt organisation to endorse his claim.

GET rid of all sanctioning bodies.

A panel from Box Rec should be formed, we should send a covering letter to all TV sports depts and newspapers around the world, with OUR ratings. We should keep doing it every month, until eventually some of them will publish our ratings.

The man in the street will be immediately better informed.

Who fancies forming a panel?

Well I am soon to be involved with something called boxingpress.org, which is doing the same thing, not quite up and running yet, but will be one of their panelists. I think a few people from here are involved, including the irrepressable Mr McNeilly.

I agree with the general consensus here, who needs these corrupt organisations telling who is the best at each weight? Let's hope Marquez gets a fight with one of the other top guys in the division instead of being forced to defend against that guy who's name i have never heard of.

These organisations are totally shameless, who are these people who run them? Do they actually like Boxing or are they just jumping on the cash bandwagon? I would love to know. It was like when Tarver and Johnson ditched there belts for a unification, even then a slimy alphabet group had to try and get involved in the whole affair (the IBO). It stinks...fornicate them all off i say

As time goes on it matters less and less. I don't understand why they can't see the writing on the wall left by Barrera, then Johnson/Tarver, Ring champions, the way tv announcers tend to either not mention the belt or to state that the belts being contested are meaningless etc

Their pathetic cash chasing shenanigans are killing the point of their own existance. I read that the Hopkins/Taylor rematch won't be for the IBF belt. Who cares?

I think we should be encouraging the belts to ruin their credibility because once it's gone it's not coming back. Then we can concentrate on fighters and good fights.
It needs to be heard that boxing fans don't care about the number of defences or belts a fighter has it's who they beat that counts.

I think the panel would be a good idea and i'd offer to be on it if I thought I knew enough about boxing… :TU:

The sanctioning bodies are a pernicious ill, they won't go quietly, they will just start handing their belts out to the biggest stars and stop trying to enforce bullshit mandatories.

So let me get this straight, if Marquez is stripped of the IBF title he loses his WBA Super Champion Title ? If so then shouldnt Marquez just be the regular WBA champion now, and Chris John only interim WBA champ ? :-?

Your not the only one Stu!!! It gives you a headache just thinking about all the rules and regulations these morons come up with. They are blood suckers on the skin of Boxing...i do love a good metaphor :TU:

I would imagine that Chris John would remain regular champion and Marquez installed as mandatory. In the case of Super Champions, the regular champion is just a glorified mandatory challenger (with a belt). So I would imagine that it will just be a role reversal but the John vs Maquez match would still be installed.

Didn't this happen to Winky Wright?

Actually, wasn't Joppy the WBA 'regular' champ when he fought Hopkins for the second time? I wondered at the time whether that made Hopkins the 'Super-Duper' WBA champion.

You know i would love to ask some of these organisations, the WBF, IBA, WBU sorts in particular...do they actually believe there belt holders are the best at the weight? And if not then what purpose do they actually serve in Boxing other than making themelves money.

Gary Shaw Productions won the right to promote the IBF bantamweight title fight between champion Rafael Marquez and Silence Mabuza with a bid of $150,001. Golden Boy Promotions bid $50,000 and Banner Promotions bid $30,000

Guilty Boxing won the right to promote the IBF strawweight title fight between champion Muhammad Rachman and Omar Soto with a bid of $26,001.

Ricky Hattons Linear, Tarvers sort of Linear. I think they probably help sell fights for people like Lynes and Cook - it gives an air of importance to their fights to the general public, even if most know those fighters aren't real champs, it looks better than unfortunately British or European chamionships to Joe Shmo in the street.

Although it would be great for the sport if they fucked off, the sanctioning bodies are here to stay end of story. No amount of dreaming or new ideas is going to get rid of them this debate has been going on for years.
