Steve, it was back in 1999 I started learning Spanish. DLH was walking out to face Trinidad and as soon as I heard 'Bailamooooos' I just felt the beat go through my body, it was as if the 'rhythm took me over' indeed. It was these passionate lyrics that drove me to seek the meaning of the words, and I rue the chance missed of expressing my gratitude to De La Hoya, perhaps with a rendition of 'bailamos'.










Just kidding. I started learning some Spanish early last year, though actually made up this nickname while standing near you back in September. Was talking to a guy from CA about a Juan Valenzuela (remember him?) fight on Boxeo de Oro, just as Roberto Duran was introduced by Michael Buffer (something like: "señoras y señores, dos manos de piedras"), and I was mixing the words together in my head - great fun when you're trying to learn a language. If I remember right we got to talking about Valenzuela because he was being lined up to face Miguel Cotto - who also was walking about down on the floor.

at hooligans. In exchange for such wonderful everyday words as 'mosquito' and 'tomato', the English have given back the Spanish plenty, consider the luminous quality of such like 'Shagaluf' and 'the Costa Bonka'.

Yeah i do remember Valenzuela, i think i have his fight with Johnny Tapia, if i am thinking of the correct one. Can't believe you were so close to me at DLH-Hopkins and you missed out on all my intellectual Boxing knowledge I am sure we could have had a great chat on the career of Nigel Rafferty

I can't speak Spanish but I'm learning Mexican!. .. I brought the 'George Bush Teach yourself Mexican in two days' kit yesterday!.. . wish me luck!.. 8) .

So basically you're going to promise us jobs and a possibility of citizenship when you're running for president and then when you become president forget all about it? Awesome! Just joking. I would have never voted for that guy. But everybody has different opinions and I respect that.

An opportunity missed... though, unfortunately the few times I have seen Nigel he has lost by stoppage (quite devastating one of them), however the series with Tony Booth and the title fight with Darren Corbett have 'cult classic' written all over them. 8)

Silkov, if you ever want to give Spanish a go I would recommend the Michel Thomas course. I hear Pimsleur do a good one as well. On the Michel Thomas one there are no workbooks (which is fun, but also causes problems). It is just him sitting in a room with two students: a boy and a girl. The girl is a smartarse who gets it right everytime, but the boy is DIABOLICAL and will make you feel like Miguel de Cervantes after about an hour. I have sacrificed many mid-90's dance classics from the likes of N-Trance and Foul Play in favour of the gurgling tones of Michel, on my crapPod when I go running. He's a bit of a grumpy old bugger, especially as the boy student continues to get things wrong later in the tapes, but I would thoroughly recommend his teaching style.

I'm going to keep hammering away at it until I can fulfill my dream of starting a thread on Argentinian 'road warriors' in this forum (the likes of Aldo Rios, Sergio Martinez, Carlos Vilches, Jorge Castro, Marcel Dominguez, Javier Alvarez, etc.) without the risk of sounding like a loon.

Jeez, I don't think I thanked anyone for adding the forum, so i'd like to thank the boxrec team for this great site, and for adding a Spanish speaking forum.

no se irè a escribir son como quince anos que
no hablo espanol. y me olvidè casi todo.
El boxeo me pone loco, ahora en Italia no hay
campeons en este deporte.

Gracias al administrador por el foro. Ahora puedo usar mi espanol mas. No lo uso, asi mucho olvidaba. Si estoy diciendo esto correcto.
