anyone have an article with a lot of info on the jockstrap comment holmes made about marciano. did he say it before or after he lost to spinx??? i heard that marcianos brothers were there when he said it, they must have been pissed.

what were all ur thoughts when he said it????? how did the reporters and fight fans react to it????

i personally see it as holmes was very heated and the loss hurt him a lott and he took his anger of spinx and the judges out on rock. people mess uo sometimes and say comments they dont really mean. holmes did regret what he said about marciano, but the damage was done.

i lossed a little respect for holmes as a person but i forgave him and give him the respect he deserves because he just was emotionally upset and heated and took his anger out on the wrong person. but it was defintely wrong and classless what he said.

holmes acutally got the rocky marciano award a couple years back and the marciano family said they forgave holmes and holmes has apologized. holmes was glad to accept the rcoky marciano award with lots of respect toward rock. so i forgive holmes and dont hold it against him.

With the jockstrap comment by Holmes, I honestly find it funny. It was disrespectful, but when something is funny someone is always going to be offended. From the context I have been told the story it was at the post fight interviews and a reporter brought it up and Holmes, and anybody in his place would be, rightfully angry.

yeah it is kind of funny also. i thought the "i wanna eat ur children comment was hilarious more than anything." and the jockstrap comment is funny in a way too though thats more personel since rocky's dead and cant back himself up. and everyone knew mike tyson was a mental case and it sounded more like a jk while holmes was pissed and said it in a way that it wasnt a jk.

Yeah and I agree with you. I still smirk everytime someone brings it up. As you said, at least Holmes did have the decency to apoligize.

Did Marciano ever discuss how he thought he would have done against past greats like Dempsey or Jeffries?

i dont know, maricano had a lot of class and i have never read him in a book or article compare himself to other legends. he just had that absolute conifidence that it didnt matter who he faced, he would win.
it got to his frien allie columbos head more than his head. he used to be like "rock look what these reporters are sayin about you in the paper." after louis fight. rocky would say to allie "fornicate em, what do they know, have they have fought joe louis"??

the closest i ever heard rock say when comparing himself to past greats was "in my prime, i believe i could have fought with any man alive."

his funniest line i read about him saying was when he was retired and a reporter asked him how he thinks he would do against patterson. he replied "if i say i would win, then id be bragging. and if i say i would lose then id be lying . " :P :P sly rock.

i got a good one for u. what if marciano was still alive and at the press conference when holmes said that comment about him. what would marciano have said back to holmes when holmes said "marciano cant carry my jockstrap". cause holmes never would have said it if marciano was still alive.

that would have been interesting, i personally feel at the age of what would have been around 61, he still might have gone up to him and tried to nail him right in the jaw. and then holmes would have been in the papers the next morning as the sore loser who beat up an old man.

i heard his brother wanted to punch out holmes. was that true.
