Duran was really a different class imo... much better opposition and much better technically than Chavez... he would outbox and cutup Chavez and win by either wide points verdict or late stoppage.

I have to say Duran but Chavez beating him is not out of the question either.. it's a very real possibility except that the most probable outcome is Duran by decision or by cuts.

Duran beats JC at LW - Duran was much faster, better defense and hit harder -

Duran stops JC middle to late rounds -

Duran, then he beats up PBF the same night.

This would have been a vicious war at Lightweight.

The ring would have been spilling over with 'Macho pride'. But I see the aggresive Chavez meeting his match in this one.

The great Chavez would have his moments to be sure, even the Lightweight force of nature that was Duran would feel the pressure and those crippling left hooks from the Mexican hero.

But Durans extra speed, defence skills and counterpunching takes him to a points victory.

Duran was god like. He beats any lightweight ever.

Duran by a hair.

Durans speed and superb head movement in close would be the difference. However, Chavez would never give up trying.

Duran is quicker and punches harder. They would go toe to toe with neither giving an inch.

Duran 9-6 on rounds.

As an avid admirer of both men, I find it hard to split the two.

However at 135lbs Duran was the best ever.

So I see Roberto being just a tad too much for JC Superstar.

Duran in UD or late stoppage.

I agree with KOJOE90 -- this would have been AWESOME.
I gotta go with "the hands of stone" on this one though. Duran's head movement and counter-punches would have frustrated Chavez into trying something outta the ordinary for him.
Then again, Chavez' body-punches would have found their target fairly often. Still, Duran's conditioning would make up for it.

Duran is without a doubt an all time great, I got to see a lot of his fights since the 70's was the era that I followed closely.

IMHO Duran as in most cases gets better and better as time goes by. This happens because a lot of the younger generations have only seen highlight of his fights and/or only heard third hand account of how good a fighter was, as opposed to seeing many of his fights the full distance at the time that they happened.

Duran, Chavez, Olivares and Arguello are probably my favorite fighters from Feather to Lightweight.

I would say that Chavez at Lightweight was very underrated defensively, had an undentable chin and was relentless. Duran on the other hand had the hands of stone but most of his Ko's were not one punch knockouts but the result of a relentless beating that Duran would dish out. In Chavez you would have a guy who could possibly go toe to toe with duran and hurt him to the body. I would have a hard time picking a winner and if pressed would say its a pick'em fight...........and much closer than some people think it would be.

Duiran by KO.

Both were legends, but "Hands of Stone" was God-like.

I can't see a KO with these 2. They both had great chins and were hard to hit cleanly.

Did you see his second fight with Oscar Dela Hoya?

Why do you pin heads keep bringing that up anyways?
Is that all you have to go on, don't you look at records, accomplishments?
Dam no one did as much as Duran in this modern era of boxing.

He was an all time great and one of my favorite fighters of all time........but lets not go crazy, there are a lot of fighters who have accomplished great things. Leonard is one fighter that comes to mind who accomplished many great things if not more than duran. Hell Arguello might hava had the style to KO Duran at lightweight.

That's a good point Brozo. Arguello would fire hard shots from way out while Duran was better on the inside.

No way Arguello beats Duran,Roberto was too fast,too slick,and even better than Arguello on the inside.I wouldn't say for sure but Arguello struggled to make 130 for awhile yet he didn't move up until Duran went to 140 then 147.I'm not saying he waited to avoid Duran but it's something to think about.
