That is fornicating unbelievable but also very sad. Such a waste of so much talent. Not saying I liked the guy but come on, we all used to look forward to seeing him fight.

Maybe he's happy?... he's got the money, family etc... quite a few fighters pile on the pounds after they retire following years of weightmaking and watching what they eat etc. 'Pound for pound' (sorry !) Hamed is probably in no worse shape than Hatton lets himself get into between fights, and Hatton is still active!...... .

Having said that I do think Hamed fell far short of using his talent to the full during his career and the way he just dissapeared from boxing is a shame....

Bet Naz is on the running machine right now, nothing worse than seeing yourself in a photo and you realise how much weight you've put on.
I lost 2 stone after seeing myself in a photo.

I wouldn't say Hamed wasted his talent. I think Barrera exposed him as a good B level champion. I just think Barerra was the first A level champion at the top of his game he faced.

Hamed did very well and was promoted very well, he came at a time when the best names were fading (Johnson, Vasquez Kelly). He fought Robinson giving the champion 4 weeks notice and he never fought probably the two "in their prime" champions, Espinosa and Norwood.

Medina remains Hamed's best win by far.

Is that even him? His eyes and nose look different, it wouldn't surprise me if that was just some bloke with the same haircut.

I agree he was moved very well, and fought guys at the exact right moment. for instance, Tom "Boom Boom" Johnson was a hell of a Champion, and still champ when he fought Hamed, but he looked like he was fading, and then Hamed took him out, and then he started loosing to every one he fought!

Same with Kelley, and other Champions Naz beat. He did meet a prime Barrera though. Plenty of prime fighters out there he did not stick around to fight (morales comes to mind too)

The Prince better be careful, or he will be getting a call from Audley about a fight!

Listen guys

In the last 20 years we have had very few boxers to shout about, Benn Eubank, Lewis, Hatton and Naz

lets remember these guys how they should be, for me Naz was a very good fighter who was unfortunately judged on biased perceptions by the british media who preferred the 'i tried my best but was not quite good enough' type of sportsman.

the guy put bums on seats turned me from a casual fight fan to a boxing nut

he provided many many thrilling moments and was the best thing to happen to british boxing for years.

People say he was over hyped, I suppose the loss to Barrera takes the gloss off but I honestly believe his resume was under rated.

all of them world class fighters and all beaten some very easily and others not so but still beaten on bad nights.

Why is a picture of a man shopping with his kids used in a way in which to run a man down.

Let him enjoy his money (he worked hard to earn it) and let the man live his life.

Yeah, I agree. These criticisms get labelled at DLH aswell although for me the critical difference between when Hamed fought Kelley/Johnson etc and DLH fought Whittikar/Chavez is that although Whittikar and Chavez were definately fading - they were still considered universally the #1 fighter in the devision. Johnson and Kelley were not.

Although, yes you have to rank Hamed as the #1 featherweight at the time (with all the decent wins he did rack up) for most publications the fighters right below him for a large period of his championship reign were Espinosa and Norwood.

I agree with Wrists we should be greatful for his achievements and yes he made me watch every SBO show (just incase he would lose I must admit), for what he did he has to be in the #10 greatest British fighters of all time and in the top #2 of the last 25 years. Having said that, part of me does feel aggreived that his bank balance is probably significantly better than better fighters such as Barrera and Morales and even less skilled but warriors like a Micky Ward.

i watched some hamed fights earlier.

his fights with juan polo perez and wilfredo vasquez.

naz was wbo no1 for marco antonio barrera's super bantam title back around the time he fought perez.

imagine naz v barrera back in 95. what a fight that would have been.

He got out at the right time, IMO.
