well because of these matchups. i have 40s/50s winning the series 6-4. of course this is all do to matchups and if we switch the pairings around, well get different results.

haha nice... id have to agree with you on every fight. maybediffernt ways of it ending, but no need repeating. very nice fight.. louis-ali i thought i would get hasseled for picking louis, but i definatly agree thatwould be a great fight n i would take louis.

Interesting Topic, I'm surprised more peolple haven't responded yet. I do think Foreman should be rated ahead of Frazier, and I don't believe that Elmer Ray or Jimmy Bivins deserves to be the in the top 10 of the 40's and 50's. Williams, Liston, and Patterson could all be in the other side that they are. Anyway, this is how I would see these fights:

#10 Shavers -Williams. I would go with Shavers although I certainly can see why some would be pick Williams. Either way, it wouldn't last long.

#9 Lyle -Ray.Lyle by Ko in 6 or 7 rounds.

#8 Ellis-Moore. I would pick Moore in a fight that may be a lot closer than some people would think.

#7 Quarry - Johansson. Johansson by Ko in the mid rounds. Johansson would be able to hit Quarry who wasn't a good defensive fighter.

# 6 Patterson-Bivins. Patterson, probably by decision. Bivins doesn't have an impressive record at heavyweight.

# 5 Norton-Walcott. Norton by close decision.

#4 Holmes -Charles. Holmes by decision or late KO.

#3 Foreman -Liston. Liston was a wrecking machine, but Foreman was a better wrecking machine. Foreman in 5 in a war.

# 2 Frazier-Marciano. I'm on the fence with this one. I guess I will go with Marciano because Frazier was often a slow starter. If Frazier gets through the eraly rounds, he would probably win.

#1 Ali- Louis. Ali by either late stoppage or decision. Louis would have a lot of trouble hitting Ali, and Ali had a great chin and would be able to handle it even if Louis did land a haymaker.

So I have the 1960's-1970's winning 7-3.
The 1970's were by far the best decade for heavyweight boxing. The 1960's were pretty good. The 1950's was almost as good as the 1960's. However, IMO the 1940's was a below average decade in the heavyweight division. Without Joe Louis, there really isn't much.

Another decade that was great was the 1910-1919. You had Johnson, Langford,McVey, Jeaneete etc.

The 1990's could have been great if Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson, Bowe, would have all fought each other. Even Mercer and Moorer had their moments.

2-Frazier 8-6-1 decision over The Rock -(hard to argue 49-0 thou)
1- Ali ez decision over Louis, Ali would have had Louis figured out by the first round. Ali beat the best of mankind period than gave them a rematch (cept George) ALi's victories over great foes Triples Louis.

I'd have to give this fight to Shavers, think that he would just overpower Williams within 10 rounds.

9 - Elmer Ray vs Ron Lyle
Ray has developed somewhat of a cult following on this site, to the extent that I believe some people tend to overrate him. I'm going with Lyle by a wide UD.

8 - Archie Moore vs Jimmy Ellis
Moore knocks him out in round 7 or 8.

7 - Ingo Johanssen vs Jerry Quarry
This is a difficult choice. But I'd give it to Quarry by a closely contested SD. Ingo was very tough, and as has been pointed out earlier, Quarry's defence wasn't the greatest that I've ever seen.

6 - Jimmy Ellis vs Floyd Patterson
Patterson wins by UD.

5 - Jersey Joe Walcott vs Ken Norton
Walcott wins by UD.

4 - Ezzard Charles vs Larry Holmes
There's a part of me that says this could be a really difficult fight for Larry. But I'd probably have to go for a Holmes UD.

3 - Sonny Liston vs George Foreman
Foreman destroys listen. This is a gun show and the man with the bigger guns wins.

2 - Rocky Marciano vs Joe Frazier
Rocky wins by UD. Or, alternatively I could see him stopping Joe - but I won't push my luck.

1 - Joe Louis vs Muhammad Ali
These days, I tend to lean toward Louis beating him.
