IBF 140 pound champion Ricky Hatton will co-promote his first world title defense. It was reported recently that Hatton is not interetsed in giving Kostya Tszyu a rematch and now IBF world light-welterweight title holder Hatton is expected to take part in a unification bout against Colombia’s WBA champion Carlos Maussa in Sheffield Arena on November 26. But Hatton’s long-time promoter Warren insists he has a solid three-fight deal and has threatened legal action. Warren said, "Anybody who interferes with my contract with Ricky or tries to induce him to break it will be sued." Hatton’s company, called Punch Promotions, will challenge any legal moves by Warren.

The company plan to go ahead with the Sheffield Arena show in association with Dennis Hobson’s Fight Academy, who are believed to have signed a one-fight deal.

Hatton has fought all but three of his last 12 bouts at Manchester’s MEN Arena but Warren has exclusive rights to stage boxing there.

And Jay Larkin, head of Showtime TV, also insists it will be a mistake if Hatton and Warren do not strike a deal.

Not sure how true this rumour is but it would seem to fit in with everything that has been going on in recent days.

Oh dear, don't like the sound of Hatton co-promoting, this could be bad.

As its a 1 fight deal supposedly that might indicate they are doing it in the interim to keep him busy while they weigh up their options. He certainly needs to be getting back in the ring soon.

Out of interest, why is co-promoting such a bad thing?

I genuinely don't see why, if it does not distract the fighter, that it is not just a good way of making more cash.

I would think that Maussa is a decent match for him and has earned a shot. it will keep RH active. I have no doubt he could fill The Hallam Arena 2x over.

while i dont knwo the ins and outs nor does anyone else on here, it does strike me as a somwhat churlish attitude, making blind threats to anyoner daring to voice an opinion, perhaps this i the attitude that Ricky is rebelling against.

I can see FW's frustration having done well for RH, but now Rikcy is in a position to dictate, after probably having been dictated to in regard to opponents in the past.

the threat of litagation to anyone daring to voice an opinion is somewhat draconian and extremely arrogant in my opinion.

Buty thats just my opinion and that counts for little I guess.

When I hear that a fighter is getting involved in promoting themselves, I always worry about distractions.

Probably means Hatton will do things on a fight by fight basis from here. So he still may fight in the UK and co-promote. I guess he makes a lot more money this way. But I still expect him to go over to the US and fight for promoters there.

I'm just waiting for it all to be confirmed so I can start doing a conga down the street.

This is not a rumour, it is a fact.

Hatton co promotes with Robert Waterman & Dennis Hobsons Fight Academy.

Warren claims to have a contract. But he has not siad what kind of agreement it is. I suspect it is a BBofC contract for a fight which never happened months ago.

I'm sure the Hattons and Waterman/Hobson sought counsels advice before proceeding. I doubt Warrens claims will prove to be Watertight.

Hatton, Waterman and Hobson expected to be sued and have probably worked this into their costs.

I bet Ricky is getting more money than he was with Warren.

What time do you think the fight will be? What channel as well.

Sportsnetwork have exclusive contract with Itv.

I'm pretty sure Sky will pick it up.

That's a helluva coup for Fight Academy. Wonder what SN reply will be - keep an eye on their website today I guess.

If its on box office lets hope we have a better undercard than the last one.
Apart from Barnes fight it was a poor undercard.

The undercard was nothing short of attrocious last time, the worst I can ever remember on a PPV.

Yes least when Naz fought Calvo. You had Broadie fight on it.

who cares, he can take his opinions and distasteful jokes and poke em.

IMO Hatton's fighting style is too repetitive for him to be on PPV for every fight, it's just the same attack over and over. I actually find it quite dull at times. Only against Mayweathwer, Cotto or Tszyu in a rematch would he be worth the extra cash because of the threat to his routine.

It makes you wonder, did FW know this was being planned for the MEN and so went in and signed that exclusive deal. Seems like the sort of thing he might do.
