Warren to block Hatton fights until after court date

I see Warren is looking to block any future Hatton fights (including 25th November) until after he has taken them (hatton snr and jnr.) to court. We may be looking at a lengthy lay off or ricky if he has to settle up with SN in court first.

allegedly has informed the Stock Exchange that he is seeking an injunction to prevent IBF light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton fighting for any other promoter.

Warren announced last week that his Sports Network Group would begin legal proceedings against the Manchester fighter over a contractual dispute.

Warren insists that Sports Network have Hatton tied to a three-fight deal, while Hatton believes he is now a free agent.

Sports Network's statement reads: "Procedures were issued by Sports Network Ltd against Richard Hatton and others seeking a declaration that Mr Hatton remains under contract with Sports Network Ltd for a further three fights and an injunction preventing him from fighting in breach of that contract.

"The company intends to progress its claims vigorously in order to fully protect its position."

Hatton is believed to have pencilled in a fight on November 25 in association with Sheffield promoter Dennis Hobson, although neither the Hatton camp nor Hobson have confirmed this.

But Warren's action means Hatton now looks increasingly unlikely to be in a position to defend his IBF title before the end of the year.

Warren guided Hatton through his first 39 professional fights, including his last one - the sensational victory over Kostya Tszyu in Manchester in June.

I read Warren's article in the News Of The World yesterday and i am somewhat surprised at this "Ricky only has three fights left in him" business, i don't know who has been saying that or if it is true (i presume it is his dad Ray). He is only 27 years old or whatever and despite his 39 fight record he has hardly been involved in Erik Morales style wars every fight has he? I agree with Warren on that score, he hasn't even hit his peak yet or is just coming into it. Maybe if his next three fights were going to be Tsyzu II, Cotto and Mayweather then it would be more understandable but Carlos Maussa and then whoever next :o

This looks increasingly worrying. If the injunction is upheld, Ricky will not fight for the remainder of the year. I hope this does not happen.

If indeed it does, it is delaying the chance for a superfights with the likes of Mayweather & Cotto. It will now probably be a long time before any of those fights materialise.

I hope it all works out well for Ricky. The man obviously wants to make big, big money and who can blame him. He will most likely be retired by the time he's 32, so he wants £££ ASAP.

I know he made a great deal of money for the fights so far, but I doubt he's had a pursue more than £1.5m? Hatton is down-to-earth and likeable guy. I do feel it would be better for him to leave Wareen, which he appears to have done.

According to John Rawling, in yesterday's Guardian, his highest purse was £1.25 million for the Tszyu fight, although Frank offered him £1.5 million for a Maussa fight. Rawling also says that Hatton has earned £6.5 million in the last 3 years alone.

Could be another Tua - Barry scenario, with Hatton getting to a similar weight in the process...

What did Warren earn from all this.

£1.5 for maussa is low. I reckon Hatton could get £2.5m for that fight.

That'll depend on how watertight franks alleged contract is though won't it..... if he has got a contract as he claims couldn't the bout get cancelled further down the line while it gets sorted?
If Warren had a watertight contract this wouldn't be happening.
Looks like it is now

Anyone got any ideas how long this sort of thing would/could take to get sorted? My guess is that with the injunction now, theres little chance of the 25th Nov.... so we're probably looking at the new year/spring at the earliest?

just because youve got it to court doesnt mean it wont get thrown out.

But presumably, now that an injunction has been issued - he can't fight until its at least been to court the first time? Are they likely to have that first date before november? Is Hatton still gonna train like he has a fight on the 25thNov, while all this is up in the air.

Unfortunately theres so many unanswered questions.... but whilst I believe he's right to leave Frank.... the messier all this gets, the worse an effect its going to have on his career.

Hatton will fight in November. Warren has got little chance of victory IMO

But he cant just say, oh no, Ricky is a free agent and he has walked. Sports Network Share price could go into freefall. As at today, Warren owns 137million shares in SN at 5.25p per share. Thats £7.2m. If the shares were to drop say a penny thats £1.37m wiped off his holding alone.

IMO Warren has to fight this regardless of whether he thinks he can win or not.

This is looking very bad for UK boxing...with the various injunctions flying around, Hatton could end up wasting away the best years of his career.
Barry McGuigen being a prime example, plus many others.

Though it's great fun to see someone stick it to the arrogant Warren every now and again, the possiblity is that SN could make Hatton's life a waking nightmare for sometime to come - they're hardened veterans when it comes to this type of thing.

Maybe Ricky should take a step back and see what could be salvaged here, no matter what his Dad says....

Let's face it, he's not going to exactly suffer at the hands of FW, bearing in mind he's already a multi millionare: WBA title next on ITV for 1.5 mill - then the world is his oyster.

Love him or hate him, old Frankie will be moving hell and high water to get the exact fights Ricky wants: Hatton IS the eight hundred pound gorilla, after all.

I'm sure you would.

Just because Warren is trying to get an injunction does not mean it will be granted, a judge might look at the evidence and throw the request out.

From what I have read about it so far a Warren win looks unlikely. Obviously I don't know the whole story but it would seem Hatton has not signed an actual contract but a fight contract which points to an earlier letter he sent. That all seems a bit flimsy to me, how can anyone prove the contents of that original letter?

Is the letter dated before or afetr the agreement?

Is the letter defined in the agreement?

Are the agreement and letter signed by both parties?

I've read various things and it would seem that the letters contents are not defined in the contract which Hatton signed for the Oliveira fight, it simply refers to an earlier dated letter but not its contents. That appears to be the case anyway. If that is the case its a huge oversight on Warren's part.

Why do it privately? I am only interested in how you reach this figure and are bold enough to make such a quote. If you are in the know, let's see how these figures are arrived at. I don't know, but we keep hearing these inflated figures and so I am interested, as I assume are many others, as to how these amounts are arrived at.

Why not break down your justification for going for a lower number?

Because Hatton could potentially earn that sort of money fighting for King or Arum perhaps?

How can you say this? Based on what, it appears that people like you who have no substance to their 'advice' are the sort of people that cause these problems with fighters and footballers for that matter. If allegedly offered Ricky Hatton £2.5M you would say he should be getting £3.5M. Surely to make such bold statements you must have some idea of the income and costs of running such a fight - clearly due to your reluctance to share your formula on open forum you have no idea. I rest my case.

I didn't quote a figure either higher or lower. I was just interested to know how these numbers are obtained that's all.

Incidentally, if Hatton, who has admitted that he has approached King and Arum and others, can earn so much more. Why is he fighting at Sheffield Arena and co-promoting the fight with Dennis Hobson? Perhaps his value of himself, like yours, is slightly over inflated. Just a thought!

My valuation is not inflated it is based on fact.

The arena the fight takes place is not crucial to what the fighter gets paid.

In big fights like these TV pays purses, not crowds.
