Just noticed Scott Dann is rated #10 at middleweight by Ring!
Pretty good achievement, we dont get many guys in their top 10's.
Looking forward to seeing him against Elcock.

Damn good achievement, but surely a little high.
I do some rankings as part of a poll on boxingranks and I only have Eastman at 10.

Perhaps a little high but a good achievement none the less.
I'd like to see Dann against Abraham if he beats Elcock. That would be a decent scrap.

How do you guys rate Abraham? I admit my first viewing was against Eastman but he didn't look like a guy destined to rule the Middeweight division, strong and tough but a bit one dimensional and i think he can be outboxed. Surprised Felix Sturm didn't fancy a crack at it.

Pretty much agree, I think that guy who nearly beat Eastman before (Tatesvyan or something like that) would give Abraham a good match, styles and all that.
I disagreed with the consensus of opinion that Eastman "lost" the Joppy fight and at times looked better. I thought Joppy won well and always looked in control. However, I thought Eastman did throw away the Abraham fight.

As much as I'm a fan, I'm not sure what Scott has done to deserve that rating?
I'd like to see him in with some quality European operaters next, see how that goes. Sebastian Sylvester might actually be a good match-up for Scott (although it would involve a trip to Germany, undoubtably). He's 3 inches shorter than Dann, didn't look a puncher when I saw him against Hakkar, and was knocked out by a welterweight, all-be-it in his first pro fight.

Lets be honest, outworking Eastman these days is no great achievement with his workrate or lack of it!
I think Taylor or Hopkins would wipe the floor with Abraham.

I do those and middleweight was one I thought about very carefully. Anbody reasonably busy has a decent chance against Eastman, and if Dann could make Eastman respect his power then it would be an interesting rematch. Like you, I rank Dann (only) just outside the top 10 but not a mile behind Eastman...

Eastman was always overrated in my opinion. And he got his high ranking by beating another fighter McCracken who himself was too highly rated off the back of a single win over Lonnie Beasley back in the year dot. McCracken seems like a top bloke, this is no personal slight but nobody can tell me he was ever a genuine top 5 middleweight. There was no shame in Eastman losing to Hopkins, although his performance on the night was awful but losing to Joppy who was definitely on the slide by then tells all about his real level. I don't think Eastman threw away the Joppy fight, or the Abraham fight he just doesn't have an extra gear above cog 1!

Dann-Eastman rematch would be an interesting one. Certainly closer than the last time around.
If Dann beats Elcock though, that will be his Lonsdale in the bag, and he should think about moving on IMO. What do you reckon to a fight with Sylvester?

Dann really hurt Eastman with a shot in their first fight, that's the only time I think I have ever seen Eastman wobbled. I'd give Dann a fair chance in a rematch, but I think he'd be better looking at Euro level to be honest. Eastman probably won't fight again until 2006!

Sure, although Dann ran into problems of his own after the initial good showing. Definitely a closer fight 2nd time around, although what Eastman's plans are is the big question.
Maybe Dann should concentrate on an EBU shot v Sylvester. He can always keep the British title win or lose. As you say, Eastman prob won't be fighting for a good few months.

yip reckon Scot is coming along nicely beating elcock will cement his name as the british number one imo. (im excluding eastman i mean those who fight in domestic level fights)
reckon a few euro level guys then a rematch with easman would put him in the top ten.
thats 12 months away for my mind but i see no reason if he keeps improving as he has that he cant be a force in due course.
gotta say the sanigers seem to be bringing him along nicely since the eastman fight.
along with lee haskins there is a lot of potential there.
as an ex west country boy im really pleased about it too.

Dann is obviously a lovely lad but I'm afraid Eastman beat him comfortably last time and I'd expect him to do the same again.

Eastman should retire if you ask me.

how so? He dropped eastman in the last fight imo, it just wasnt counted. The glove defo touched down.
this did happen when scott was far more inexperienced and a big step up.
i think eastman is on the slide and dann onthe up.
dont think it would be comfortable for Howard at all.
in fact i pick Scott to beat him if it happens in 6 months.

Eastman might have found himself on the floor briefly at one point, but I don't believe he was hurt and certainly not in any danger of losing the fight. He DID win that fight comfortably.

beg to differ on this one then kil, reckon there would be a turn around.
reckon eastman has shot his bolt.

Because he lost out to Abraham? I think Dann would do very well to last the distance with the German if you ask me.

For me Elcock V Dann is still very much 50/50. I think people claiming Dann is ready for the top middleweights in Europe are going too far, Eastman and Abraham def. have the power to take Dann out, more so than vice versa. Dann has improved but not up to this level as yet, Bendall is probably his best opponent since Eastman and imo he was one of the most overrated boxers in the country at the time.
I'd like to see the Elcock, Dann winner take on Richard Williams.

no because he is on the slide.
its pretty obvious he doesnt have the work rate to me.
points to an ageing fighter, bear in mind im calling this in a years time.

Eastman never has shown a high workrate, certainly not against movers, which Dann aint (the main reason why the fight was so short and conclusive last time).

agreed i just think its a cross roads fight for both in a years time and one Scott can win.

I'd go with Scott in a rematch, he's improved no end since the last Eastman fight, and Eastman is only on the way down. It's still a very tough fight... but i'd pick Scott to win.
