Khan vs Carey

Well, was not that impressed with Khan... this is a guy who was stopped by Carl Wright...

And Amir got caught a few times. I think he might be a bit chinny too, judging by the Craig Watson fight.

Another Errol Christie?

Early days yet. Perhaps better that he gets caught a bit early on in his career, lets him know what it feels like and gives him a chance to improve.

Khan did NOT want to knock him out...

I am very impressed with Khan.

good to see him getting 4 rounds under his belt and geting tagged a few times. much better than a 90 second ko where he learns nothing.

All credit to Carey he turned up and made a show of it.

Thought Rosenthals comment about "Well Amir you seemed to have more trouble getting out the ring than you did during the fight" was very disrespectful to Carey. Good to see Khan correct the clown though.

he did everything but stop him really.

certainly in terms of skills i'm convinced he's world class. its just a case of the rest of it now. :TU:

He's still in the transitional stage between amateur and pro and I think that showed; he did look a little over anxious. I was impressed and I'm eager to see what he'll be like when he settles down a little and picks his punches.
Carey survived because that's all he wanted to do.

I was impressed, know he's got bags of power and he looked very good.

I was very impressed. Speed and power were both there. You can't be too critical of him as this was his SECOND FIGHT and he is VERY YOUNG. He isn't gonna fight like a 3 year pro already. I'm glad he got caught a couple times, now he can come out learning something from that fight.

McGuigan made the best point, one I was thinking all through the fight: Carey came to survive, and Khan is at his best when he's countering.

He's going to have a lot of that in the next year. Guys might say they can knock him out, but 30 seconds of those combinations can change all that, which is going to lead to a lot of Khan teeing off on guys like tonight, and whilst he can certainly look good doing that, (which I think he did tonight) he's going to look at his best against someone who trys to throw back against him. His hands are so quick when the opening is there, and the accuracy is there as well. I think he moves pretty well also. Yes, there are flaws, but you'd expect them at his age. He's under an awful lot of scrutiny right now, let's face it: He's certainly the highest-profile undercard fighter I can remember.

The lad is a class act, he'll be doing damage at title level soon. Just to play some sort of Devils Advocate, I think he'd make Graham Earl look silly over 4 rounds even now. In a years time Khan still won't be eligible for the British title because of his age, so I don't think you can criticise the guy for being less than perfect.

Khans not going to be a huge puncher when it comes to world level, he has top class hand speed and good accumulation already. Nice skills but a little repetitive. A journeyman whos overwhellmed won't tag him but a decent counter puncher could time a big shot to his chin.

This is early days, everything can be improved and he can be a belt holding world champ, I don't think he'll be a great champ but time will tell.

Does anyone else think they should of started Khan at 135/130?

I was a bit disappointed. Khan looked so sharp in his debut, on his toes, darting in and out with flashy combinations. Here, he looked a bit flat footed.

That was probably because his first opponent came looking for him, where he looks better, like someone else said. Think he still should have stopped this guy or at least deck him.

Yeah Khan looked sharp against one of the most inept boxers i ever saw (Bailey). Against a limited but game guy (Carey) who didnt really have much defense he couldnt score a kayo or a knockdown. Khan has talent definitely but hes way overated.

Once again the write ups (check BBC website) are full of words like 'awesome', 'dazzling', and 'great'. fornicate off.

All this fornicating hype turns me off fighters. 'Mr Charisma' Khan is not. His post fight interview made me yearn for the days of Bruno, Benn, Eubank etc. British boxing realy is a barren wasteland when everyones wanking over this guy as our next superstar.

Your right there neil, i forgot about that, stupid statement from an idiot. I can't stand Rosenthal, he's a smug arsehole.

Yes, I was dissapointed with his interview skills. He always gave me the impression that he was a boxing enthuisiasts with alot of respect for the game and a fair (not as much as some presenters) amount of knowledge of the game. However, a few of his questions had me cringing - that one was the worse of them.

I DONT THINK HE CAN PUNCH!

They looked more like flashy punches, trying to look good, rather than banging out your opponent.
he will get ko's but he's no NAZ,

bailey wasnt flattened was he, and carey never looked like he was going down, not to me anyway.

Still khan IS a good fighter, theres no denying that

fighters who can move and counter will give him problems, michael Grant will test him BIGTIME and so would nicky smedley

I was thinking the same at ringside, I was more impressed with Grant in his debut than Khan. Kehoe made it a lot more awkward for Grant than Carey did for Khan

I agree 100% that was a stupid comment to make.

As for Khan I thought he put on a good (NOT great) show for a 18 year old having his second professional fight bearing in mind the hype and media attention/pressure(?) he has on him.

After Carey felt a few of those fast and snappy combinations I think as others said he mentaly switched to a more defencive plan.

As for Khan still way too early to say how far he will go in the professional game but he showed good concentration, fast hands, good array of shots and seems to have some 'pop' in his shots (speed is power etc).

Long way to go yet though.

Strong stuff

Got to agree with Mitchel and Murray looking the better overall prospects.

Bloody hell - the boy's already getting written off and it's only his 2nd fight!!
No wonder some faults can be seen, it'd be strange if there weren't any.
I reckon he looks heavy handed enough in there - Baz just seemed to have a good chin on him.
He looked a little more patient in there this time, which was an improvement on his slightly wild debut.

These rumours about his chin...well, I hope they're wrong - with a good trainer, it'll be the only thing stopping him from going all the way.

I don't know whether it's his (admitedly poor) attitude towards the ABA's, or the amount of attention he's recieved, or any other reason, but it strikes me that some people just cannot wait for Khan to fall flat on his face. How can you write him off after 2 fights? He's an 18 year old kid who's already expected to become a world champion and superstar. I say give him a break.
