Duke had some classics on the BBC, and I thought he was keeping the strange comments to a minumun - then came that clanger.

Thought it was a little bit of a Calzaghe love in from Rawling and McKenzie to be honest - They were harping on like he's beaten all the top names and I don't think Byron Mitchell is as good as they made him out to be, neither is Mario Veit.

Didn't he call him the greatest british boxer over the last 20 years also?

Was pretty hilarious with some of the stuff they were coming out with-it was obviously meant for viewers who havn't really seen much boxing due to the Sky deal.

Yeah, bit of a strange one from ITV. Pre-fight, they made some good points: 'World Champion..... with the profile of a journeyman' and there were more decent questions asked to Joe and Enzo in that little build-up than Sky managed in years. I presume that was all hyping up a Lacy clash though, and noting Joe's lack of terrestrial exposure, all good build-up for ITV to launch Joe as a star.

But then when the fight, or indeed, the ring walks started, it was a bit of a love-fest for Calzaghe. He was built up as a man who 'doesn't yet have the respect he craves', but then it was 'Joe deserves more respect than he gets' on the commentry.

That said, I think Rawling does a much better job of building the atmosphere than either Holdswerth or Neilly have done. Production was much better for this show than ITV's other efforts.

Regarding the Calzaghe promo, they had the tone right. Unreliable fighter who is unrecognized for a reason.

I posted the same thing on the other thread, i knew i hadn't imagined this quote When Calzaghe was asked if he is going to leave a legacy he replied something along the lines of "I am building one now"

Well all well and good, anyone can make a mistake but one of that proportion is unforgivable and clearly goes to show that the commentary is nothing more than a promotional tool for the fight in prgress otherwise the other commentator should have corrected him.
