I don't know how much coverage the undercard got last night, so here's a wee rundown of some of the scraps. I cannot be arsed with all of the.
I certainly had the displeasure of being there for the Calzaghe fight, and it was a fornicating joke!!! Ashira was shit, and I can't believe Calzaghe had the nerve to fight the BUM. Calzaghe's hand was knackered, you'd think in a world title fight, that might spell trouble, but the guy was so useless, that it made no difference whatsoever. Calzaghe still won every round. However, the arena was nearly empty by the time the fight finished.
Glad my man Lockett won impressively though, becoming the first person to KO Allan Gray (the Mellis stoppage was a cuts). The guy was way out of his depth, but Gary does not have the luxury of choosing his fights. Good for him though, he was so happy after the fight, and Warren was all over him allegedly. Hope he gets good press.
Tony Doherty V Taz Jones warmed into a beauty. Jones started strong, backing Tony up. Seemed to swarm and punch gloves a lot. Doherty was in danger of letting it slip away, but with consistent clean shots, he upped his work rate, and took it by a point or two. Some of the crowd disagreed, but I had Tony the winner. Wouldn't mind seeing that one again though, good domestic scrap.
Khan looked good, his hands are soooo fast!!!! He needs to start adopting a pro style though. Still very upright and amateur. I cannot criticize the man though, I thought he did well, and they picked a good durable opponent for him to beat up.
Kell Brook, the new prospect on the scene at Welter. Looked impressive, and obviously has stacks of talent, but didn't give the crowd much. His work rate was low, and he didn't seem bothered if the crowd enjoyed the match or not. Still one to watch, the smooth little bastard.
Rhondda boy Barrie Jones scored a tasty KO too. Dropped Jaz Malik within seconds with a real clean shot, and it looked like curtains, but Malik got up. The ref didn't need much persuasion to stop it though, and after the next knock down he waved it off. Malik moaned he was ok, but good Refereeing IMO.
