I haven't seen Mbaye much how do people think Hatton-Mbaye would pan out? Could Mbaye be all wrong for Hatton? I certainly won't shed any tears about Hatton-Mausa not coming off

M’baye has fought for the WBA title before, losing to Vivian Harris on points, his only setback in 33 starts.

But he is still number one in the organisations rankings – and long overdue his mandatory crack at the title.

“I believe in signing up the best talent in boxing, irrespective of where they come from,” said Warren.

“When I was given the chance of signing M’baye I leapt at the chance.

“As his promoter I’m keen for him to get the WBA title shot as soon as possible. He is number one to Maussa and should get his chance before anyone else.”

Does a Super Champ have to fight mandatories or the regular WBA champ for that matter? These belts are a joke

The WBA super champ have to fight mandatories, who is the WBA regular champ. How often he has to do it depends on how many belts he have, ie Taylor doesnt have to have a mandatory WBA defense as often as Mormeck does because he also have the WBO and IBF belts.

Only WBA belt: 9 months
2 belts: 18 months
3 belts: 21 months
4 belts: 24 months

I don't even pretend to understand all the politics but from what i have seen of Mbaye he is a good fighter, compact and skilled and it's a shame he hasn't had more chances at world level.

I feel sorry for Souleymane M’baye, he's simply a pawn in Warren & Hatton's argument.

Still this signing does suggest that Frank may be running scared and not quite as confident of coming out on top in court.

If he is the mandatory, then he's more likely of a shot than Hatton.

But, there can't be any money in this for Warren though, ITV and US TV are not going to be interested in a Colombian Vs a Frenchman.

It's more likely gonna be M'baye Vs Eamonn Magee for the vacant WBU.

I'd heard that M'baye was going to be Hatton's next opponent if Hatton had signed with Warren.

Now it looks as though Warren's still determined to hamper Hatton's career the best he can.
I can't see M'baye v Maussa getting 22,000 at the M.E.N, then again I'm sure it would be an undercard fight with Amir Kahn headlining like Cazaghe was the undercard last night.
I can remember Warren criticising the BBC for having Audley Harrison as the bill topper but now Warren's doing exactly the same with Kahn.

Damn, poor Frank - that's like looking forward to a steak dinner, and ending up with a sausage roll instead.

The WBA mandatory defense plays a role here.
The last WBA 140 mandatory defense was Harris vs Urkal 2 (maybe even Urkal 1) so the mandatory defense had to take place in july. It also says that if a challenger wins the belt and he is not the mandatory challenger, he has to defend it within 120 days, that will be in october in this case.

Should Hatton vs Maussa take place the winner has to defend the WBA within 9 months against the WBA regular champ since Maussa wasnt the mandatory challenger when he won the belt. But the regular champ has to have defended the regular belt at least once before there can be a mandatory fight between the super and regular champ.

If Hatton/M'Baye happens, wonder what Warren's reaction to Mickey Vann as referee would be?

M'baye is a good exciting box-fighter and world class from what i've seen of him and very durable.

I was always hoping Hatton and M'baye would clash for the EBU title a few years back, but Hatton was taken the WBU route and nothing ever came if it.

It would still make a great fight.

To be honest with you, I can see Maussa just vacating the WBA title anyway so he can get more money against Hatton. Maussa isn't stupid, he knows he's at the wrong level at the moment and will know how reign as WBA champion won't last one defence anyway so he will cash in on his success and who can blame him? Which would sell more, Maussa vs Mbaye or Maussa vs Hatton? Exactly.

Why would he vacate the title? He will not be stripped. If Hatton beats Maussa then he will be the WBA super champion as he will be a unified champion and they can then get Mbaye and A N Other to fight for the WBA title normal. Then they get 2 sanctioning fees.

Plus, would Hatton fight Maussa if the WBA title wasn't on the line? That belt is the only reason Maussa is getting any money.
