Matt Skelton. Any News?

Matt Skelton is a busy fighter so I assume he will want to fight once or twice before the and of the year. The talk about a fight with Ruiz seems to have gone quiet.
Anybody have any news on Skeltons near future plans?

Good question. I think we can assume a WBA shot against Ruiz, which was a
WTF???
even before mighty McBride 'annhilated' Tyson to 'earn' a title shot is a no-goer.
Have to assume there's no 2nd attempt for a match-up with Williams too.
And any fight with Sprott, or even a fight with Krasniqi, which is just a personal thought, wouldn't happen this year anyway.
Who does that leave? Gammer, if his eliminator against Krence was a final one, although Sprott-McDermott has also been mentioned as a British eliminator.
With that pretty much it on the domestic front, that would seem to leave Skelton with the prospect of an 8-rounder against some obscure South American I would think. But I have a nasty feeling he would need a trinket if he were to headline an ITV show

I think the phrase 'clash of styles' would go into overdrive.
I'm curious to find out exactly what Skelton has to face to discourage him, though. He has his faults but he wins rounds through sheer effort.

Don King was over at the weekend and one of the things they were discussing was putting Skelton in with one of King's heavyweight champions. King is very keen on the idea apparently.
(From allegedly.tv) Don King says he is keen for British heavyweight Matt Skelton to fight one of his world champions.
King, ringside for Joe Calzaghe’s WBO super-middleweight title defence against Evans Ashira, made the revelation live on fwtv radio.
The legendary American promoter currently controls the fortunes of WBA champion John Ruiz, IBF title-holder Chris Byrd and WBO king Lamon Brewster.
“Matt Skelton is currently big in Europe and I’d love to work with allegedly in putting on a fight with one of my champions,” confirmed King.
“I’ll be holding talks with Frank over the next few days and it’s a fight I’d love to do.”
Undefeated Skelton, who needs one more successful defence of his British title to secure a Lonsdale belt outright, has long targeted a fight with Ruiz.
But he would jump at the chance of challenging for any version of the world heavyweight title.
“I’m as keen as Don to make this fight, so let’s see where we go in our negotiations,” added Warren.

An interesting (and ugly) one for you: Skelton v Akinwande.
Only came to my mind because I was wondering whether there was anyone worthwhile who might fight Skelton for the (now vacant) Commonwealth belt.

Skelton v Akinwande may aswell be Greco Roman Wrestling. That is the worst fight I can imagine without a doubt.

Hey hey, I said it would be interesting, not good. Watching scarecrows biting the heads off whippets may be a very interesting occurence to some people, although admittedly not pleasant

I'd like to see Skelton make another defense of the British title, so he can win a belt outright, unfortunatly the top 10 british heavies is a bit poor at the moment, maybe the only one i could see being put foward is Wayne Llewelyn. Not the most exciting match up i know.
Internationally i think Skelton will be matched carefully, i don't see him making a mark in world class,

Nick, you slipped a 'b' in front of your second to last word by mistake...
Skelton's European level at best. But I do like his work-rate and his did ride some big shots against Mirovic. Given the current state of things, heart and stamina can get you a fair way in heavyweight boxing.

He should fight in November. He needs the fight quickly.
I dont why his promoters are not booking him to fight in London. He sells quite a few tickets.

I agree with topper123 it would be nice to see him win a Lonsdale Belt outright, but at his age if he is offered a World Title shot I think he should grab it. He is not going to get much better at his age so why wait? If he wins then great if he loses he can always grab a few more paydays at domestic level.

If I could choose a fight to see Skelton in it would be against Vinnie Maddalone. Jesus I watched that guy have an absolute war on CH5 the other night, he's not super talented but he just throws bomb after bomb and doesn't get tired straight away.
Maddalone vs Skelton could be one of the wildest fights ever seen in a British ring.

He's no doubt a very nice guy you'd like to see do well, but to be honest Joe, the fact he's already being mentioned as a world title challenger, makes me cringe, and just about sums up how dire the world scene is at the moment.

Why not Skelton v Audley Harrison ? Or is Skelton too big a risk at this stage.
