Cook made WBC No.1 for Champion Chi

Dagenham's European and Commonwealth featherweight champion Nicky Cook has been made the No.1 contender for Injin Chi's WBC featherweight crown.
The undefeated 26 year-old, who has a perfect 25-0 record, recently relinquished his British title to concentrate on a European title defence and possible world title tilt in the not so distant future.
Cook impressively knocked out Dazzo Williams inside two rounds on June 16 to win the British featherweight crown and is expected back in the ring in October.

Good luck to him, I like Cook and Jess Harding has done a good job too. He should fight Harrison though and leeve Chi well alone. He could beat the jock just by moving around him.

Of course, if Soto and Chi don't come to an agreement then Cook might have to face Soto - a far less daunting prospect.

Yeah, I don't think he could handle Chi yet, that dude is a machine!!!

I dont think Cook is quite ready yet but if the chance to fight for the WBC belt comes along i'd say take that chance Nicky, what do you have to lose, he's still young enough to have a 2nd shot at the belt.

I agree, too much emphasis put on remaining unbeaten, look at Clinton, fourth time lucky, and now a defending IBF champ.

I'm not saying Cook would nessesarly beat him, but Chi seems to be starting to show some signs of wear and tear and I'm not sure if he's quite the same scary proposition that fought Morales. He was impressive in the rematch with Brodie, but I think their first fight had taken everything Brodie had left.

I agree cook would beat Harrison.

Personally I think Chi is starting to slide and getting complacent.

His last 2 fights have been against underserving challengers Eiichi Sugama and Tommy Browne.

Sugama rattled that supposed rock hard chin of Chi and even put him down legit but the ref didn't rule it a knock down. Sugama gave Chi all sorts of problems and I think Chi was thankful to get him out of the way

Tommy Browne he won a lop sided decision against but with all that domination he failed to stop a man who has been beaten by opposition the likes of which Kevin Mitchell and Amir Khan are now padding their records out with and then after the fight Browne somehow managed to get another title shot and was stopped by Chris John.

A machine wouldn't be rattled like Chi was against Sugama and a machine would of stopped Browne. Cook is definitely a better fighter than Sugama and Browne and I think could impose more problems than either of them did on Chi. I think it would be more than a one sided fight as I think that Chi's engine after many wars is running low and I think Cook could definitely at least make it close.

I've heard that Chi struggles horrifically to make weight, in fact it's a known fact that many asian fighters are put through hell to boil down and make unnatural weights to give them the strength advantage on the night. This might explain why he's faded significantly.

yeah i heard that from a distinguised boxing friend pre brodie somink like 32 pounds he had to shift for the second fight.

Fighters in Korea are routinely put through incredibly tough training regimes to get them down in weight.

Chi is fornicating huge at the weight, he's got the build of a lightweight.

You just have to look at the guy's face - facially Morales looked like a proper bloater in comparison. Chi's face looks like an unwrapped mummy.


I also think Chi may be starting to coast but he may also be fighting to the level of his competition. Certainly Soto, who's decent, would be the less daunting prospect.


I'd love to see Chi against Pacquiao.

Tommy Browne took some punishment from Chi but kept coming, a brave guy. Browne showed though that movement and a strong jab can give Chi problems i just don't think Browne had the strength to keep it going. He also copped Chi with a few left hooks that night too.

So would I, that would be an unbelievable tear up. If Chi is on the slide and his punch resistance is on the wane then you'd have to make Pacquaio favourite, if not then you'd have a 12 round war which could go either way.

What ever happened to Maxwell? He hasn't boxed for ages.

Could Scott Harrison fade eventually like that since he's unatural at that weight too?

Maybe Harrison should try and get the fight with Chi.

What's the priority for these fights then?

(as in Champion, interim champion and #1 challenger)

Soto is down as having a WBC Interim title defence on the 17th Dec in Chicago. Any word Cook might be involved in that?
